When trying to grow a business from your home, it can be defeating. Some days are just as you imagined, getting all the things you wanted to complete finished, while other days you can feel overwhelmed. It’s important to have days where you can relax and take a break. Burnout can be a real challenge when you’re trying to build your business, but being aware of how you feel and prioritizing yourself is just as important as doing tasks.
I wanted to share some reminders that sometimes are easy to forget.
1. Not everyday will be as productive as you’d hoped. As I briefly talked about above, this one is super important. Being a creative person that owns a business can lead to being a perfectionist and that can burn you out. I’ve taken hiatuses a few times since opening my shop, not because I didn’t care, but purely because the perfectionist in me took over and I was trying to do too much all at once. It’s important to schedule in days where you can focus on yourself and take a breather from the hustle.
2. Your work won’t be for everyone. Art is subjective and not everyone will agree with what you create or even understand it. This can be a roadblock for some people, but it’s always a good motivator knowing that the right people will always find you. It may take time for your community and supporters to find your work, but it will be worth it. Creating what makes you happy and fulfilled will always be a rewarding process, even if others don’t understand it.
3. You may outgrow people and things. As many small business owners can relate, there has probably been some projects that you thought you would be able to do or that you thought would be successful. It’s okay that not everything you make and put out there works, it’s a learning process finding what will work for you!
People will come and go aswell. Putting yourself out there can be intimidating to people and many times it stems from jealousy of not being able to do that for themselves. Starting a small business will truly show you the people in your life’s true colors. It’s okay to create boundaries with people that don’t understand or judge your passion and drive.
4. Your doing better than you give yourself credit for. I feel like everyone needs to hear this no matter what stage of life your in. You got to wake up another day and follow a passion of yours, which is such a gift! Being hard on ourselves or getting imposter syndrome can mentally set us back. It’s important to focus on your why and keep pushing yourself through the mental roadblocks. Take days for yourself or get some fresh air with a walk outside! Taking a step back from your work is always healthy.
5. Trust yourself, you are capable of so much!
Some days will feel harder than others getting through the list of things to do. When you trust in the process and believe you are capable to accomplish your goals, you’ll be suprised how much you can succeed.
I hope this list of reminders finds the people it’s meant for 🫶🏻 I would love to help support anyone who is in need of a community going through the ins and outs of a small business. When we support eachother, life will always be easier!
