We’re excited to welcome acclaimed Canadian author Will Ferguson to the Nikka Yuko Bunka Centre for the launch of his latest novel, Officer Shimada and the Disappearing Girl.

Set in Okinawa, this captivating mystery brings together history, culture, and a disappearance that spans generations.

The evening will feature a special presentation by Will Ferguson, a koto performance by Meimei, a Q&A, and a book signing.

Join Eric Dyck () as we celebrate the completion of the Henderson Connections project with Lethbridge Public Art.

Eric will share tales from his experience creating the pathway murals around the lake over the past summer, along with many learnings from his year-long journey with the park's pathways, wildlife and visitors.

The talk will be followed by a leisurely walk to visit some of the pathway murals in person. Guests are welcome to bring mobility devices, and maps will be provided to view each mural.

The event will take place at the Bunka Centre on September 17 at 5:30 PM, and light refreshments will be provided.

We’re pleased to share that current Seasonal Passes have been upgraded to Annual Passes! Your existing pass will be honoured and extended, giving you continued access to Nikka Yuko beyond the traditional seasonal period.

Your pass will remain valid for one full year from your 2026 purchase or redemption date, with your updated expiry falling in 2027.

🎬 Film Screening: 1910 – The Uncovering

Join us at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden this September for a special screening of 1910 – The Uncovering, presented in collaboration with the Prince Takamado Japan Centre for Teaching and Research (PTJC) and the Calgary Japanese Community Association (CJCA).

The 27-minute documentary explores the tragic 1910 Rogers Pass avalanche, one of Canada's deadliest railway disasters, in which 58 railway workers lost their lives, the majority of whom were Japanese.

Following the film screening, guest speaker Mr. Tomoaki Fujimura will present on the history and story behind this significant event.

The screening is being held in recognition of Japanese Heritage Month.
