👀A Closer Look

Sometimes the most compelling parts of a work are the ones a photograph can’t quite capture.

Look closely and you begin to notice the surface, the subtle shifts in colour, the marks and textures, and the small details that reveal themselves slowly over time.

In Holly Edwards’ The Sun, the Moon, the Rain Will Carry You (24" × 30"), there is so much to discover beyond the first impression.

This work rewards a closer look and a reminder that experiencing art in person is very different from seeing it on a screen.

🌸The Pairing | A Pairing of Form and Flora

At the heart of A Pairing of Form and Flora is a conversation between two distinct artistic practices.

Shelley Brown and Holly Edwards approach their work differently, yet when brought together, unexpected connections begin to emerge; between form and nature, structure and movement, texture and colour.

There is a wonderful rhythm and energy created as the eye moves from one artist’s work to the other. Organic shapes are echoed, contrasts become more apparent, and each piece seems to offer a new way of looking at the one beside it.

That dialogue is what makes this exhibition feel like a true pairing rather than simply two bodies of work sharing a space.

We invite you to spend some time with the exhibition and discover the connections for yourself.

✨COMING TO ECCO | MARILYN GOSLIN: THE CHARACTER OF PLACE

This fall, ECCO Art Gallery Studios is delighted to welcome acclaimed Ontario painter, Marilyn Goslin back to the Peterborough and Kawarthas region for a very special exhibition, "The Character of Place".

For more than three decades, Marilyn has painted the places that capture her attention, familiar streets, architecture, gardens, forests and shorelines, transforming them through expressive colour, strong line, rich texture and an extraordinary sensitivity to atmosphere.

Her connection to this region is a longstanding one. Marilyn’s work has been exhibited in Peterborough and is held in the collections of the Art Gallery of Peterborough, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Lakefield College School, Hospice Peterborough and private collectors.

For "The Character of Place", Marilyn brings together a diverse collection of work inspired by Peterborough, the Kawarthas, Northumberland, Muskoka and beyond, celebrating not simply how a place looks, but how it "feels".

We feel incredibly fortunate to be presenting Marilyn’s work at ECCO and cannot wait to share this exhibition with you.

✨ Artist Feature: Holly Edwards on Exhibit ✨

Gold leaf brings a luminous, almost alchemical quality to Holly Edwards’ richly layered works, catching the light and shifting as you move around each piece.

Through expressive mark-making, collage, colour and texture, Edwards creates compositions that feel both intimate and mysterious, inviting us to look a little longer and discover what is hidden beneath the surface.
