Lake Country Art Gallery is delighted to present the thesis exhibition of UBCO MFA student Samantha (Sam) Wigglesworth ‘Everyday Existence as Resistance’, a body of paintings of trans and gender non-conforming individuals that “seek to foreground the lived experiences, intimacies, and joys of communities that continue to be marginalized within dominant social and political structures.” Motifs of cardboard and tape stress the mundanity and everydayness of the lives and stories depicted in the works.

“My intention is to paint my models as their
everyday q***r selves, in all their light-hearted and joyous delight as individuals, as an act of resistance.”

Explore this powerful thought-provoking blend of cultural q***r research, and striking visual storytelling in our space.

💬 ARTIST INTERVIEW | Samantha (Sam) Wigglesworth: ‘Everyday Existence as Resistance’
“It is about painting trans and gender-nonconforming individuals as works of activism... to play into the mundanity of everyday q***rness.”
Hear from UBCO MFA candidate Samantha (Sam) Wigglesworth as they share the powerful, necessary vision behind their solo thesis exhibition, ‘Everyday Existence as Resistance’.
By capturing trans and gender-nonconforming individuals in moments of relaxed, everyday life and painting onto real and fictitious cardboard motifs, Sam shifts the focus from sensationalism to the beauty of the mundane. These striking works challenge the viewer, redefining ordinary presence as a radical act of activism and resilience.
We are honored to host this urgent collection at the Lake Country Art Gallery.
📦 Everyday Existence as Resistance is now on display.

Explore this powerful exhibition, experience the incredible texture of the work in person, and celebrate the vital stories being told.

Lake Country Art Gallery is delighted to present the thesis exhibitions of UBCO MFA student Pegah Khor ‘Collapsed Within’, an exploration of “death, loss, migration, and the repeated killing and rebuilding of the self ” that is formed of fragile paper which is delicately layered, fragmented and ultimately reveals raw expression:

“The works are not planned; they evolve through collapse and repair, much like the self shaped by trauma. I have pictured my wounded soul. I have inscribed my life onto these papers at every stage.”

Explore this powerful exhibition, experience the incredible texture of the work in person, and celebrate the vital stories being told.
