For over fifteen years, Bobby Bazini has been asked the same question: why doesn’t he sing in French? Though the desire was always there, he struggled to find his voice in his native language. After an unsuccessful attempt in 2022 with longtime collaborator Connor Seidel, Bobby stepped away from the project and focused on touring and releasing Pearl.

While touring across Canada and Europe, Bobby returned to school to finish high school and reconnected with his former French teacher, who encouraged him to read more French literature to expand his vocabulary and confidence as a writer. Slowly, writing in French became less technical and more emotional.

The turning point came when he saw his full birth name — Bobby Bazinet — on a student ID card. After years of being known as “Bazini,” it sparked a deeper connection to his identity and inspired the French-language album that would become Seul au cinéma.

Inspired by wandering alone through movie theatres during a tour stop in Saint-Eustache, the concept for the album took shape: nine songs, like nine films, exploring identity and solitude. Musically, the project blends acoustic guitars, sampling, synth textures, and cinematic ambience inspired by artists like Jim et Bertrand and Daniel Bélanger.

Seul au cinéma released last September, and Bobby has never felt so eager for an album launch.

Having long defined himself through his idols, Bobby Bazini now steps forward — stripped down, without artifice — in his own language.
