💬 ARTIST INTERVIEW | Samantha (Sam) Wigglesworth: ‘Everyday Existence as Resistance’
“It is about painting trans and gender-nonconforming individuals as works of activism... to play into the mundanity of everyday queerness.”
Hear from UBCO MFA candidate Samantha (Sam) Wigglesworth as they share the powerful, necessary vision behind their solo thesis exhibition, ‘Everyday Existence as Resistance’.
By capturing trans and gender-nonconforming individuals in moments of relaxed, everyday life and painting onto real and fictitious cardboard motifs, Sam shifts the focus from sensationalism to the beauty of the mundane. These striking works challenge the viewer, redefining ordinary presence as a radical act of activism and resilience.
We are honored to host this urgent collection at the Lake Country Art Gallery.
📦 Everyday Existence as Resistance is now on display.

Explore this powerful exhibition, experience the incredible texture of the work in person, and celebrate the vital stories being told.

💬 ARTIST INTERVIEW | Pegah Khor: ‘Collapsed Within’
“It’s about grief. It’s about how you can move on with grief, and how we all go through the process of grieving. Basically, these works are about human emotions...”
Hear from second-year UBCO MFA student Pegah Khor as she shares the deeply resonant themes behind her thesis exhibition, ‘Collapsed Within’.
Through her texturized and evocative installations, Pegah explores the universal landscapes of human emotion, the shared phases of life, and what connects us all in moments of vulnerability and transition.
We are so proud to host Pegah’s work and provide a space where her creative vision can truly settle and come alive.

🖤 Collapsed Within is now on display at the Lake Country Art Gallery.

Come step into the space and experience these moving pieces firsthand.

Tomorrow, Wednesday May 27: LIVE at the ALTERNATOR Artist Talk with Samantha Wigglesworth

LIVE AT THE ALTERNATOR // FEATURING SAMANTHA WIGGLESWORTH

Experience the heartbeat of Kelowna’s art scene: live!

Join us TOMORROW for “Live at The Alternator”, a monthly talk show hosted by local contemporary artist Kel Taylor. Set in the beautiful Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, this series brings you raw, uncensored interviews with the creative dynamos shaping our city.

In this edition, Kel sits down with Samantha Wigglesworth! Sam () isn’t your average artist—they’re a creative force who thrives on pushing boundaries. Challenging the current violent and hostile tide of North American conservative rhetoric Sam provides a platform through portraiture for their gender nonconforming subjects to be seen and “heard.” In a political climate that struggles to find peace and foster inclusivity, Sam’s work is a beacon and the spotlight is on them in our 4th episode of Live at The Alternator.

When: May 27th | Doors: 5:30 PM | Showtime: 6:00 PM
Where: The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art, 421 Cawston Ave, Unit 103.
The Vibe: Expect offbeat questions, unscripted brilliance, and the kind of spontaneous energy that only happens in a room full of creatives.
