The Generational Strength Shirts have arrived🧡

I created the concept for this design to honour our ancestors, all Survivors, the children who never made it home, and the generations who continue to carry the impacts of the Residential School system.

I’m grateful to an Indigenous ally who helped bring the graphic design to life. The shirts were also locally produced by Eversick Clothing, an Indigenous owned company.

Our existence is resilience, and our strength is generational.

$5 from every shirt sold will be donated.

✨ A very special evening at Métis Matriarch ✨

This Saturday, I have the honour of welcoming La-Dawn Redcrow, creator of the beautiful Nêhiyaw Affirmation Cards, for a small and intimate evening at the store.

She’ll be sharing a reading from her cards and talking about the inspiration, meaning and journey behind their creation.

There’s something really special about being able to sit together in a smaller space, listen to the person behind the work, ask questions, visit and connect.

Her Nêhiyaw Affirmation Cards will be available to purchase that evening, and if you already have a set, bring it with you, La-Dawn can sign your box!

I’m incredibly grateful that she has chosen Métis Matriarch as a space to share this part of herself and her work with community.

September is shaping up to be another meaningful month at Métis Matriarch.

-September 12 – Fish Scale Art Workshop with Clara Desjarlais- Spots available: register online or DM.

-September 19 – Private Ribbon Skirt Workshop at the Lac La Biche Museum (the store may be closed while I’m facilitating)

-September 30 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The store will be closed to attend the commemorations and gatherings happening throughout the community.

And there’s more coming!

Métis Traditional Jigging classes will be announced soon and starting in September.

A little reminder as we head into the school year: Monday–Friday, the store will briefly close from 3:15–3:45 PM for school pick-ups. Thank you for continuing to support a small business that works around family, too.

What a beautiful afternoon of creating, learning and gathering together.

Today’s second candle making workshop with Soulfull Creeations was filled with creativity and intention as everyone made their own beautiful, long burning/mon toxic beeswax candles.

Thank you to everyone who attended and shared your afternoon with us, and a special thank you to Jamie for once again bringing your knowledge and creativity into the Métis Matriarch workshop space.

I’m honestly in disbelief. In just six days, the Loved & Passed Forward donated ribbon skirt initiative has raised $500 for the Wayasoo Food Bank.

Kinanâskomitin to everyone who so generously donated a ribbon skirt thus far (Shirley, Payton, Jodie, Dee, Melinda, Connie and anonymous), and to every person who viewed, purchased, shared and supported this initiative.

I’ve heard so much gratitude for creating an accessible way for people to own a ribbon skirt, especially those who may be starting over, rebuilding, reconnecting with their culture, or simply unable to purchase one brand new.

These skirts are continuing their journeys, carrying love and story forward while giving back to our community. What began as a small idea from the heart has already made such a beautiful impact. This is what community looks like. Lac La Biche Canadian Native Friendship Centre.

Generational Survivor.
Generational Strength.

I had this shirt designed with intention, to honour our ancestors, all Survivors, the children who never made it home, and the generations who continue to carry the impacts of the Residential School system.

This is personal to me, it's not just another orange shirt. My chapans (Clara Watchmaker, Mary Jane Lewis/Cardinal) and kohkum, Lydia Cardinal attended Residential School, and my mom, Audrey attended Day School. I am a descendant of those who survived. Their stories, strength and resilience continue through the generations that followed.

Our existence is resilience. Our strength is generational.

I also wanted this shirt to give back in a meaningful way. For every shirt sold, $5 will be donated in support of Indigenous Survivors, families and/or community. I will share where the funds are directed so there is transparency about the impact of your purchase.

There is also a lot of meaning behind how these shirts are being created. I thank the local youth/Indigenous Ally for bringing my vision to design, and the shirts are being produced by a local Indigenous company. It was important to me that, wherever possible, this project also creates an opportunity to support and uplift Indigenous talent and business/local business.
