🌿 Henna Night in Kurdish Weddings 🌿
One of the most beautiful and meaningful traditions in Kurdish culture is "Şeva Henê" – the Henna Night – celebrated on the eve of the wedding in honor of the bride.
Women from the family and community gather around the bride, dressed in colorful traditional Kurdish garments adorned with beads and gold. The bride wears her special ceremonial outfit, often sparkling with sequins and embroidery.
Henna is prepared in a decorated bowl, mixed with herbs and oils, and surrounded by lit candles. Traditional songs are sung – like “Henê hêvîyê ye” ("Henna is a symbol of hope") – creating an atmosphere of joy, emotion, and cultural pride.
The bride's hands (and sometimes her feet) are adorned with henna as a symbol of blessing, love, and good fortune. Guests also receive small portions of henna, symbolizing unity and shared happiness among women.
🎶 Kurdish Henna Night is more than a celebration – it's a living bridge between generations, carrying the spirit of tradition into the future.
