Menno Singers

Menno Singers A mixed voice choir rooted within the Mennonite tradition and dedicated to musical excellence.

Menno Singers has been an active part of the Kitchener-Waterloo choral community since 1955, when Abner Martin founded the choir with an aim to provide Mennonite choristers with opportunities to study and perform sacred a capella choral music. The 45-voice choir has since expanded its repertoire to include secular works, accompanied works, hymns and oratorios.

Ten Thousand Thank yous from the MennoSingers choir to our audience, our sponsors, our musicians and our mass choir singers. It was a risk to perform a lesser known piece as our mass choir finale at Centre in the Square as part of our 70th anniversary season - and we believe that risk paid off. Audience members affirmed it as an unforgettably moving experience - powerful with the force of 5 percussionists and a full assembly of brass, a sensitive cello solo, a piercing piccolo, one can go on. The final message of the piece “Better is Peace than Always War” landed strongly with this audience, who sang with the mass choir - Dona Nobis Pacem - Give Us Peace. We look forward to sharing next season’s music with you next fall!

The MennoSingers season may be finished, but musical opportunities continue!

Derica Scott and Elaine Glinos are both recent Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty of Music graduates. The concert is called “Travel Back In Time.” We created this concert series, featuring a wide variety of music genres, to make connections between classical music and modern life and open up the world of opera to people who might not be familiar with it. We will be featuring local guest artists too! We want to share our music with the community.

Saturday May 30th 5:30 pm at All Saints Anglican Church. Pay what you Can

In his Mass for Peace, Karl Jenkins forces an encounter with the senseless violence of war, and the raw grief that accompanies it. As the dust settles, we all receive this gentle benediction. Benedictus is perhaps the most beloved movement of the work. Last night MennoSingers posted a clip from the dress rehearsal unaware that this was not permitted. Enjoy this authorized Youtube version directed by Sir Karl Jenkins himself instead- and come if you at all can to hear it in person tonight! Bring tissues, it is a meaningful performance. Tickets available at the door and at the Centre in the Square box office.

MennoYouth Ensemble packed the house at Christmas and left their audience seriously impressed with their warmth and their depth. InterMennonite Choir impresses with their musicality and the sound that only children's voices can make. Don't miss either musical moment.

MennoSingers family of choirs is proud to support musical opportunities for all ages, starting from Grade 1. If you know a child who might enjoy singing in a community choir with a faith-based perspective, consider tapping their shoulder (or their parent's shoulder...) to explore Bring-A-Friend night Tuesday April 14 with The Inter-Mennonite Children's Choir (IMCC)! Though "Menno" is in our name and in our roots, members are welcomed from a diversity of roots and perspectives. Children's choir performances bring innocence and freshness to the fore, it is a pleasure to attend. All are warmly invited to the IMCC Spring Concert, Sunday afternoon, 3 pm on May 3rd at Breslau Mennonite Church.

BBC Headline reads “Welsh composer makes history as music tops worldwide chart”. The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, by Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins, was voted the most popular work in the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2026. Dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo War, the 82-year-old's choral work from 2000 reflects on the devastation of conflict while expressing hope for peace." Against the backdrop of current world events, its message remains strikingly relevant, underscoring enduring themes of peace and hope for the future," said Classic FM.

The Armed Man was originally commissioned in 1998 by various bodies as a mass to mark the millennium, said Sir Karl, adding that it had been performed "globally" 4,000 times since 2000. "It's a narrative of conflict and war," he said. "It begins with peace and preparation for war and for conflict, the reflection after this, then hoping for a better future”

MennoSingers choir members chose Jenkins’ Armed Man: A Mass for Peace over other selections in a full choir vote to mark our 70th anniversary season. We agree with Jenkins, who said: “It's still as relevant today, the message, as it was 25 years ago," he said.

Menno Singers mass choir is performing Karl Jenkins’ Armed Man: A Mass for Peace on Thursday, May 21, 7:00 p.m. at Centre in the Square, Kitchener ON. Tickets are available through the Centre in the Square box office.
