Dear Concerned Customers:

Over the last few months I have been contacted by various long term customers, offering to donate to the cause or do what they can to help. I have been resisting this as I am not entirely comfortable with the idea. I have finally relented and decided if you truly feel stongly enough about Highlands Cinemas, and want to donate to the cause we will accept donations. The conditions we will impose are any money donated will go into a seperate account, until a decision on what we are going to do is made in Sept. At that time if we decide to go ahead the donations will go towards the upgrades that are necessary if we are to reopen next year. If we decide not to continue the donations will be returned to the people donating. I am flattered that some people feel so strongly about this Theatre that evolved out of my life time interest in movies. If you decide you want to help, donations should be sent to Highlands Cinemas, Box 85, Kinmount, ON K0M 2A0 or can be handed in at the Ticket Window when you come for a show. Cheques should be made out to...

This week, Highlands Cinemas lost one of its most recognizable faces.

Gumpy Cat has passed away.

Many of you met him out front, saw him wandering the property, or were introduced to him through The Movie Man Documentary. He became an unexpected star, drawing visitors who wanted a photo, a sighting, or simply the chance to be judged or hissed at by that famous grumpy face.

The funny thing is that in his later years, Gumpy wasn't nearly as gumpy as his reputation suggested.

Thanks to Keith's love, patience, and care, the old fellow softened. He traded some of his complaints for naps, good meals, warm beds, and being patted. He still looked like he disapproved of everything, but those who knew him best saw a different cat.

Gumpy became part of the story of Highlands Cinemas. He was here through countless movies, visitors, and adventures. He brought smiles to people from all over the world, usually without making the slightest effort.

Rest easy, old man.

The show goes on, but it won't be quite the same without you.

🎬 NOW PLAYING AT HIGHLANDS CINEMAS

The cats have reviewed this week's lineup and, after much discussion, have officially given their paws-up to Supergirl! Does Supergirl have a feline version of Krypto?

Matinees also begin!

Showing now:

Sheep Detectives— 6:45 PM | 4:00 PM
Toy Story 5— 6:30 PM | 3:45 PM
Backrooms (Ends June 30th — last chance!)* — 7:30 PM | 4:30 PM
Disclosure Day — 7:00 PM | 3:30 PM
Supergirl — 7:15 PM | 4:15 PM

And now for this week's important candy bar question:

Who likes Big Turks?

Around here, people seem to either love them or look at them like they've just discovered a raccoon in the concession stand.

There is no middle ground.

Let us know where you stand in the Great Big Turk Debate.

The sheep are still reigning supreme at the Highlands box office... and judging by the celebration from our resident cinema cats, they're quite pleased with the current state of affairs. 🐈🐑

Will Buddy and Buzz finally dethrone the sheep?
Or will the flock continue their unexpected Kinmount domination?

There's only one way to find out.

Grab some popcorn, have a look at our updated cases, settle into your favourite seat, and join us for another weekend of movies.

Another Steven Spielberg alien movie is landing at Highlands Cinemas. We've always loved bringing Spielberg's films to our screens, and we're especially excited about this one.
Of course, around here, we've long suspected the cats may actually be the aliens... and the cinema might be their mothership. Stranger things have happened in Kinmount!
Join us this weekend! 👽🐈‍⬛🍿

Aren't there enough talking cats in He-Man already? At any rate, the master of the universe is coming as well as Scary Movie 100!

A sincere thank you to everyone who keeps coming out to the movies. Every ticket, every bag of popcorn, and every visit helps keep this quirky little cinema in the woods alive and proves that moviegoing is still something special.

We're grateful that so many of you still choose the big screen, the shared experience, and a night at the movies. Cats and all.

Thanks for keeping the magic alive.

Well, we’ve gone and added The Bread Winner to the lineup this week. We love how Nate Bartgatze defends his parents' fat cat. Let him be!

Meanwhile, we’re still romping around the universe with Grogu and company in a galaxy far, far away from the 1977 original.

And coming soon…

Masters of The Universe
Toy Story
Disclosure Day
Scary Movie

Thank you to everyone who came out over the long weekend. Luckily, the blackflies didn't eat us alive....yet.

This week we’ve got a couple of new arrivals: Project Hail Mary and The Mandalorian & Grogu.

So whether you’re in the mood for a space western or Ryan Gosling talking to a pentagonal rock, we’ve got you covered.

I do wonder if Jabba’s son has Grogu for a snack?

At any rate, come disappear into the woods with us for a few hours! See you at the movies 🐱🍿📽️

We opened the doors (again), the projectors didn’t explode, and somehow you all showed up.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our season opening last weekend — the regulars, the curious, and the folks who took a wrong turn and stayed anyway. We appreciate it more than we’ll ever say properly.

Now that you’ve found us… no excuses.

We’re back in the woods this weekend with another lineup of films you won’t find by mindlessly scrolling at home.

FRIDAY MAY 8TH – MONDAY MAY 11TH
6:30 – The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
6:45 – The Devil Wears Prada 2
7:00 – Sheep Detectives
7:15 – Michael
7:30 – Mortal Combat

Drive out. Stay awhile. The popcorn’s hot and the cats are probably judging you.

After a long winter (too long, if you ask me), Highlands Cinemas is back.

We reopen tomorrow — May 1st.

For over 45 years, this place has been a little different. Built in the woods, run on stubbornness, a love of movies, and the firm belief that watching a film should actually feel like something.

If you’ve been here before, you know.
If you haven’t… well, it’s about time you fixed that.

We’ve got the screens ready, the popcorn waiting, and yes—the cats are supervising as usual (poorly, but enthusiastically).

Come out, get your popcorn, check out the displays, and watch something the way it was meant to be seen: big screen and no nonsense.

One review of The Movie Man called this place “a Canadian Cinema Paradiso.”
You be the judge.
