Pam and I toured the S.S. Keewatin at the Great Lakes Museum in Kingston today. Our tour guide Daniel was great and gave us a almost private tour of the ship. In her hey day she was a first class only luxury Liner sailing the great lakes between Canadian Pacific rail lines between Georgian Bay and what is now Thunder bay back in the early 1900's. The ship launched in 1907 and was registered in Montreal the same year. She was to long to go through the Welland Canal, so she was cut in half and then reassembled on the other side. She was retired in 1965 and has been a museum ship pretty well since. Came to Kingston Great Lakes Museum in 2023. The ship had 3 levels of first class, first, firster and firstest. A little different than what would be considered first class today. The life boats were never needed on this ship, but just like the Titanic it didn't have enough life boats for all souls on board. That was rectified after the sinking of the Titanic.
