This shows we can redesign our cities in Canada for less fossil fuel traffic but more bikes and pedestrians! Bioswales and “sponge parks” to turn old parking lots into lovely parks that cool the city and absorb severe storms to prevent flooding.

My standing piece of advice for those who live in North America who pine to see the best-practice streets of dozens of places in Europe or want to educate colleague/friends what’s possible: just go to Montreal! It’s much closer! It’s fun, vibrant & welcoming to human beings not in cars!

Under Anne Hidalgo – mayor for 12 years until last week – the French capital added bike lanes, cut traffic and reclaimed public space, but not without resistance

🖊️ Ages 11–15 are invited to a four-week writing workshop exploring solarpunk and speculative fiction. Through creative prompts, discussion and collaborative activities, participants will develop their storytelling skills while imagining new possibilities for the future.

The final portion of each session will be dedicated to sharing work in a supportive environment, where participants can read aloud and receive encouraging, constructive feedback from peer mentors who are past winners of the Youth Imagine the Future Festival writing program.

📚🎨 What happens when libraries become galleries for youth climate imagination?

Youth Imagine the Future was recently featured in the Canadian School Libraries Journal in an article by Shelley Woods, Education Librarian and Acting Head of the Queen's Faculty of Education's Library. The article highlights how libraries can help amplify youth voices through art, writing, and community displays.

From student-created visions of sustainable cities and thriving ecosystems to stories of hope and resilience, YIF projects help young people imagine practical solutions for a better future—and share them with their communities.
