Josiah is based on the true life of Josiah Henson, ‘Josiah’ engages audience imagination through a mix of drama, dance, and movement. One man, one bucket, and one 12’x12’ square of light bring the improbable story of Josiah Henson to life.

Enduring forty years of slavery, Josiah Henson stayed true to his moral foundation and persevered through the unimaginable to achieve freedom in Canada. Faced with betrayal from his master, he escaped with his wife and four children, at times carrying them on his broken shoulders for miles. His freedom realized, he continued striving, making great contributions in Canadian history. His continued determination led him to achieve greatness.

Although his story inspired one of the most notorious characters in literature, Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom,” Josiah Henson’s legacy is lost in history. ‘Josiah’ shines as a beacon of hope in a troubled world.
