Hi! Today is the anniversary of the first time I became a mom (AKA my eldest’s birthday) which always makes me a bit introspective, and so I thought it was a perfect time to do a bit of a reintroduction.

I’m Tori, an artist and mother of 2 (4 if you count my cats) in Kingston, Ontario, who mostly paints in acrylic but also dabbles in other mediums. I focus mainly on floral pieces, not only because I think they’re pretty and they make me happy, but also because they tie in with my focus of objects that have historically been shuffled off into the female realm. I like recreating them in new, thoughtful ways that demand attention no matter your s*x or gender. This is why most of my floral pieces use bright, “Technicolour” palettes, dramatic arrangements and flow off the canvas onto the edges. This theory behind my work has subtly been shifting into some abstract pieces as well.

I’m incredibly lucky to also work for and .mfg where they let me experiment with all sorts of goodies all in the name of art education; and I’m always thrilled to discuss art and mediums with people!

If you want to stay in the loop about upcoming shows, workshops and more, make sure to sign up for my newsletter through the link in my profile or on my website.

Love, Tori

One of my favourite little minis has found a home today!

“nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands” was one of my favourite little minis created for the Minis show back in February, it’s the painting that made me fall in love with painting glass!

You can find the remaining mini pieces I’ve created either at .apothecary.co or or wait until I finally give in to my urge to paint more wee little paintings 😆

Friday night I got to talk to people a bit about what I sometimes do when I’m a bit stuck - especially if I’m working large - and can’t visualize the right composition.

Since a lot of times I start with a bit of an abstract background, or even when I’ve just toned my canvas, I’ll take a picture of that initial background and put it into Procreate on my iPad and then start layering different flower arrangements on top to see what tickles my fancy. Sometimes I adjust the size, sometimes I’ll add an extra element or take one away. Sometimes I’ll create whole new arrangements from multiple bouquets to make exactly what I wanted!

With “Go Ask Alice”, that’s exactly what happened: a whimsical bouquet made straight from the wonderland of my imagination and collection of floral imagery to create a whole new arrangement exactly perfect for the tone of the background I had already created.

“Go Ask Alice” is still on display at until June 7 so make sure to go see her in person in all her Renewal show glory 🌸

And if you want to hear me talk some more about my practice, come see me live paint at .apothecary.co this Friday night - May 29 from 5-8, for DT Gananoque’s Art Walk!

This abstract piece that I’ve been working on (among others) is finally finished and dry! Except to be honest, it’s got so many details that it’s hard to show it off properly in just one photo! So I guess you’ll just have to wait to see it on display at during Art After Dark next Friday night - we’ll be having a staff show and market, I’ll be live painting and we’ll have some other fun things going on ❤️

📆Friday, May 22
⏰ 7-10pm
📍Art Noise, 290 Princess St.

See you thereeeeeeeee!
