Organizing your creative supplies isn’t only about making everything look tidy. It’s about making your workspace support the way you actually work.

A few useful shifts:

- Organize active supplies around your project needs and workflow, not only by category.
- Give your most-used supplies the easiest access.
- Keep current-project supplies separate from backup supplies and finished work.
- Sort before buying bins so you know what you have and what kind of storage you actually need.

A system can look organized and still be difficult to use. The best arrangement is the one that makes it easier to find what you need, return to active work, and keep the workspace workable over time.

I’ve noticed that the state of my workspace affects how easily I can focus on my art.

When an unfinished project is spread across the table, tools from another piece are still out, or supplies have no clear home, the room keeps asking me to make decisions before I’ve even begun.

For me, organization isn’t about making the studio look perfect or removing every bit of creative mess. It’s about giving active projects a place to live, putting tools back where I can find them, and clearing enough room for the work I want to do now.

That small amount of order changes the feeling of sitting down. I spend less time orienting myself and more time noticing the drawing, the materials, and the next mark.

My two favorite art hacks. Two weird little upgrades that make a big difference in my studio.

One: a reptile heating pad on my drawing board. The gentle heat softens the pencil so it blends better, layers easier, and the color comes out brighter.

Two: my tablet mounted to my drawing board with magnets. Keeps my reference photo right next to my drawing, so way less looking back and forth.

I’m officially bringing my organizing experience to the creative world.

I’m launching Creative Workspace Organization, helping working creatives, makers, and hands on business owners create physical workspaces that support the way they work.

Before I officially launch, I’m running a small beta program with 2 working creatives so I can test and refine the experience with real clients.

The beta includes:
• One private 90 minute Zoom organizing session
• One month of personalized support
• A practical organization system designed around your workspace and creative process
• Guidance as you put the system into practice

Beta rate: $50

This is Keyni. Some of my absolute favorite portraits to create are the ones that step outside the norm like this. I love the aesthetic of an off-center, cropped composition. Moving away from a traditional centered look gives the piece a really clean, modern feel, and it puts all the focus right on their expression.
