An absolute joy designing A Moonlit Night for Thousand Islands Playhouse annual fundraiser! The talent on tonight was electric. Many of the design elements were low power draw, rented, and reusable if purchased. We utilized the event to rebuff inventories with insight of the upcoming season. backdrop is a second life drop from our design of Nine (SLC) with a new layer of artwork skillfully blended in by Scenic Painter Tillie Morgan. Shifting a Venetian skyline into London. Ice Sculpture by Ice Guys was a dream of the decor team, remarkably crafted 6’ tall using some 6 ice panels. Umbrellas were modified in such a way they can be return to be used by patron services and branded for future swag. It was a blast jamming with this team!

Fatuma Adar as Joan 1, in our new adaptation of (Saint) Joan. Last December Living Edge launched. We move slow. But what comes is always worth the tectonic shifts we support in the industry and community. Pictured here is Costume Designs by JB Nelles, Sound by Adrian Shepherd-Gawinski and Stage Management by Heather Bellingham. A team of courageous technicians and creators all around. We are checking the barometers, and a front is on the way. We have announcements to tease, and looking for some producing support to make these plans even more exciting. If interested in helping us out, reach out we’d love to talk!

As spring begins to tickle the grass tips, us at Living Edge are looking back and taking stock of our year so far. Upcoming we have designs heading to the East Coast, sprinkled through the Thousand Islands, and as far north as Thunder Bay! We'll give you a sneak peak of the process coming up! We have to apologize about being bad at this social media thing, we've been very busy rallying and getting involved in local politics that we put the front facing of the company on hold for a few months. We will be back so stay tuned :D.

The architects of our Saint Joan - the design team. Our costume designer!

JB Nelles JB Nelles (they/them) is an emerging set and costume designer based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia). They are very excited to be joining Living Edge for their debut season of Winter. Past credits include: Set and Costume Design for The Wild Rovers (Smile Theatre), Costume Designer and Head of Wardrobe for Legally Blonde, Pinocchio, Next to Normal, and Sirens of Song (Stephenville Theatre Festival), Associate Set and Costume Designer for The Turn of the ScrewI (Opera 5), Associate Set and Prop Designer for La Bete (Talk is Free), Assistant Set and Costume Designer for Macbeth: A Tale Told by an Idiot (Eldritch Theatre), Set and Prop Designer for (Everyone I Love Has) A Terrible Fate (Befall Them) (VideoCabaret, Crow’s Theatre). The architects of our Saint Joan - the design team.

Adrian Shepherd-Gawinski is an actor, composer, and sound designer based in Toronto. He especially loves to participate in the development of new plays, like The Hooves Belonged to the Deer (with Tarragon Theatre, as an actor), King Gilgamesh and the Man of the Wild (with Soulpepper Theatre, as a sound designer) and Easy as Pie (with James & Jamesy, as a co-writer and composer). He has never personally used his powers of charisma, negotiation and military tactics to install a dauphin in the throne of a major nation, but he imagines he would make a decent showing of it if the occasion presented itself. Adrian is the winner of two Dora Mavor Moore Awards for sound design. He is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada.

Hey all! We are on the road this week, you can spot our work at The Capitol Theatre - Port Hope - Christmas Panto opening this weekend.

There is a naughty and nice!

Eco fun facts in this design: we have used the town sky line in the design showcasing some famous locations where locals work that have changed our fairy telling scene across the globe. Ecologically, the set uses all FSC lumber where new wood was required. It is the first Capitol show built entirely in house! (no secondary shipping waste!). We have partnered with local artisans to share bespoke, and we mean bespoke, furniture not in stock, and 50% of the design came from reclaimed flattage from earlier in the season! Now, it isn't just the incredible jokes to bring a smile to our face.

Check out our full schedule of live theatre, music, film, community, and special performances. Book your tickets today!
