⛸️ **Getting Ready for CanSkate!** ⛸️

Is your skater joining our **Learn to Skate/CanSkate program** this season? Here’s what they’ll need to get started! ❄️

🪖 **CSA-approved helmet**
⛸️ **Properly fitting figure or hockey skates**
🧤 **Gloves or mittens**
👕 **Comfortable clothing — layers are best!**

⛸️ Choosing the Right Skates

Properly fitting skates are **very important for your child’s success and progress** on the ice.

✅ Hockey or figure skates are both suitable for CanSkate.
✅ We recommend **lace-up skates** rather than skates with clips or dials.
❌ We **do not recommend plastic or adjustable skates**.

While adjustable skates may seem like a money-saving option, they can make it more difficult for young skaters to develop proper balance and technique. As the skate is enlarged, the blade can become too short for the boot, making skating more challenging.

🧥 What Should They Wear?

**Layers are best!** We do not recommend snowsuits, as they can be bulky and make movement difficult.

Try:
• Long Johns + jogging pants + a light waterproof pant
• Thermal shirt + long-sleeved shirt + sweater
• Gloves or mittens

A little preparation goes a long way toward helping your skater feel **comfortable, confident and ready to learn!** 💙⛸️
