Under The Spire UTS is an award-winning summer-long music series in a gorgeous historic venue. Located in beautiful Kataganek! In the 1970s and 80s, the St. Instead the "Save St.

www.underthespire.ca Mary's Church, now home to Under the Spire Music Festival, was in serious disrepair. At that time suggestions were made to tear down the Church as the parish alone could not afford to undertake the expensive renovations. Mary's" campaign was launched in 1987. Due to an overwhelming response from area chu

rches, businesses, individuals, families and other groups, the necessary renovations were paid for and completed within 3 years. One of the campaign initiatives was the "Sundays in the Summer" concert series which proved to be extremely popular and a successful source of revenue; however the volunteer core behind the series became stretched to the limit and in order to evolve to the next level into a separate entity and formal event, a dedicated focus was required. Consequently, in 1996 Under the Spire Music Festival (formerly known as the Indian River Festival) was formed as an incorporated non-profit body for the presentation of fine music appropriate to the Church and to aid in the continuing upkeep and restoration of St. Mary's. In fall of 2009 St. Mary's Church was decommissioned, a common fate for many rural churches in Prince Edward Island. After many months of negotiations, the Festival and the authorities of the Diocese of Charlottetown came to a final purchase agreement for St. Mary's Church. On December 15, 2009, Indian River Festival Association Inc. became the sole owner of this wonderful heritage building. While this news brings a lot of excitement, it also comes with the huge responsibility of preserving and maintaining St. Mary's for the benefit of future generations.

Dee Hernandez is a Cuban-Canadian singer, songwriter, and performer whose music radiates with the heartbeat of her heritage and the soul of contemporary artistry. Now based in Atlantic Canada, she weaves Cuban and Afro-Latin rhythms with soulful expression and Jazz sensitivities, creating a style that is uniquely her own.

Her journey from rural heart of Havana, to Canada’s stages is a story of courage, resilience, and boundless creativity. Defecting at just 16 years old during an East Coast tour, Dee found not just a new home, but a new voice — one that bridges cultures and generations.

Celebrated for her electrifying live performances, Dee has earned nominations for the East Coast Music Awards and Music New Brunswick Awards, and her songs have been featured in major projects, including the TIFF-featured film Do I Know You from Somewhere an Bell TV Show “Home on the Bay” airing Spring 2026. Industry legends like July Black and Sass Jordan have praised her for her world-class artistry, recognizing her as a vital voice in Canada’s musical landscape.

In September 2026, Dee will release her debut LP, a project that comes full circle, reflecting her evolution from the moment she arrived in Canada to the artist she is today. The album traces her journey of resilience, love, and cultural preservation through her distinct fusion of Cuban roots and modern soul.

Dee has lit up stages across the country, captivating audiences at Canadian Music Week, Contact East, and many other festivals. Her dynamic shows blend infectious rhythm, masterful vocals, and heartfelt storytelling, creating performances that are both intimate and explosive—a true celebration of culture, resilience, and the power of music.

A Saskatoon native transplanted to the Niagara Region of Ontario, Roots and Blues singer and musician Suzie Vinnick is a 3X Juno Nominee, a 2X Canadian Folk Music Award winner, won a 2024 ECMA with her project A'Court, Spiegel and Vinnick and is a 12-time winner of the Maple Blues Award for songwriting, female vocalist, acoustic act and more. Suzie has a voice you’ve heard a thousand times and one you’ll never forget. It soars, it growls, it whispers and it shouts from a deep, deep well of emotion. The pure joy she exudes when she plays her guitars is so worth the show.
