Policing in Kensington—Now and Into the Future
Kensington is unique among PEI communities of a similar size because we have our own municipal police service. For 100 years, local officers have served this community and built lasting relationships with its residents, businesses, schools and organizations.
There have been discussions about whether Kensington should continue operating its own police service or move to another policing model. This would be a significant decision for our community, and residents deserve to know the conversation is taking place. We encourage residents to become informed, ask questions and make their views known through the appropriate municipal process.
We also want to clarify comments about the number of officers appearing in our photographs. Providing policing coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year requires enough members to cover regular shifts, vacations, training and sick leave. Not all our officers are full-time. We also have one officer assigned to Joint Forces Operations and another assigned to the Joint Enforcement Team. A photograph of our entire team does not represent how many officers are working in town at one time.
Every police service in PEI does excellent work, and we are proud to work with and support our policing partners. This is not about claiming one service is better than another, it is about helping residents understand what Kensington currently has.
Our members feel privileged to serve this community. We have been here for 100 years, and we sincerely hope to be here for another 100.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me anytime.
Please feel free to share!

Landon
