Our beautiful, 1000 + square foot studio is nestled in the quiet woods beside Andrea's home. The Academy was founded in Kemptville in 1991, and has always offered quality, professional training with an emphasis on fun, laughter, and respect. Andrea is proud to be one of the very few certified dance teachers in our area (The Canadian Dance Teacher's Association), and cont

inues to further her knowledge by attending numerous teacher workshops/courses including the National Ballet School, Royal Academy of Dance, and Rhee Gold's DanceLife Conference. The Academy of Expressive Dance offers season classes (Sept.-June) in: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical Jazz, and Creative Dance
Adult classes vary by session, which lasts on average about 8 weeks in length. Pilates Plus, Ballroom Fire & Fitness, and special summer classes are offered as the studio schedule allows.

When I took this photograph, I saw more than a beautiful lift.
I saw trust.
Strength.
Partnership.
One person rising because someone else was willing to support them.

That is something dance teaches us so beautifully: we don’t diminish our own light by helping someone else shine.

Sometimes we are the one doing the lifting.
Sometimes we are the one who needs a steady hand beneath us.
And there is strength in both.

Did you know?
The Academy of Expressive Dance opened in 1991, when Andrea was just 21 years old - with a Youth Venture Loan, help from her dad and a very big dream. ♥
Since then, over 3,500 children and adults have danced, created, performed and discovered what they are capable of here.
Some danced for a season.
Some stayed for decades.
Some returned years later with children of their own.
And one once-shy young dancer went on to perform as a clown with Cirque du Soleil.
Every journey begins differently.
Every journey begins with a single step.... and sometimes a bit of silliness helps. 😉✦

Your Brain On Dance
There is a lot happening inside a child's brain during dance class. ✦
They are listening to music, remembering a sequence, coordinating different parts of their body, navigating the space around them, watching the teacher, adapting when something changes - and expressing themselves at the same time.
Dance gives children joyful opportunities to practice focus, memory, coordination, timing, creativity and problem-solving.
To them, it feels like dancing.
But underneath all that movement, something pretty remarkable is happening. ♥

You do not need to know all the steps.
You do not need to arrive feeling completely confident.
You only need one brave first step.
Heart also believes tutus are appropriate for nearly every occasion - but that may be a separate Academy policy discussion. ♥

For a little dancer, the first class is a very big adventure. 💜
At the Academy, young children learn through music, stories, props, imagination and repetition that feels like play. We teach the child in front of us - not just the steps on a lesson plan.

Adult dancers are some of the bravest people we teach.
They walk in carrying old stories: “I am too old.” “I have two left feet.” “Everyone else will be better.” Then the music starts, somebody laughs, and the room becomes a place to move instead of a place to prove.
