A Piece of History in Every Piece of Art

The countdown is officially on! ⏳ In less than 48 hours, I’ll be at Sandhill Wines in Kelowna for my first show of the year, and I can’t wait for you to meet the newest members of the flock.
These birds carry a story that goes back over a century. Each one is perched on authentic, character-rich wood sourced from Midway, BC—salvaged from the very homes built by early pioneers in the 1900s.
When you take one of these sculptures home, you’re not just getting a piece of pottery; you’re holding a tangible slice of British Columbia’s history. The weathered grain and rugged textures of the wood perfectly complement the delicate nature of the birds, creating a beautiful balance between the past and the present.
Come say hi, sip some wine, and find the bird that speaks to you!

Finding history in the wood. 🪵

A piece of the past for a piece of the future. I found this incredible old-growth wood near a pioneer site on the KVR Trail in Midway—it’s well over 100 years old!
The texture and history of this wood make it the perfect natural perch for my ceramic birds. It feels right to give these sculptures a home on something that has stood the test of time in the BC interior.
Keep an eye out to see which "bird of the day" claims this spot first!

I’m not saying she’s a diva, but she’s already requested a dressing room and a specific brand of organic birdseed. 💅✨
Meet Tansy. She’s the newest, most vibrant member of the flock, and she’s fully aware that she’s the main character. If "vivid" had a personality, it would be this bird.
She’s officially making her world debut at the Sandhill Winery Artisan Show this weekend (April 11–12).
Come for the wine, stay to be judged by a tiny ceramic masterpiece. Tansy will be there waiting to find her forever branch (or bookshelf). 🍷
See you there!

The “Kiln Gods” were definitely feeling the creative vibes this time around! I just cracked open the vault, and let’s just say the studio is officially getting a little crowded.
From those perfectly “flashing” reactive glazes to the personalities emerging from the clay, this batch of birds is ready to fly.

Walking into a shop and seeing your own work looking back at you—I’m tingling all over❤️

I had the most wonderful surprise today at Pearl and Fern pottery studio. To walk in and see these two bird sculptures beautifully displayed by the owner made my heart skip a beat.

I’m feeling so incredibly special and grateful to be part of such a supportive, creative pottery community. It’s moments like these that remind me exactly why I love what I do. ✨

I’ve just unloaded my latest flock of birdies and I’m honestly over the moon. The kiln gods were clearly smiling today because the colours, glazes, and whimsical little personalities all came out beautifully. Each one feels alive with its own character and charm.

Today, I’m skipping the high-tech gear and going old-school with a mouth atomizer to spray the glaze onto my latest bird sculpture. 🐦🪨
It’s a total thrill to try a technique that’s been used for centuries, even if it means I’m currently covered in more glaze than the bird is! The goal? To get those soft, feathered gradients and stone-like speckles that only a fine mist can provide.
Will it create the subtle, natural effects I’m dreaming of, or did I just make a giant mess for nothing? The kiln will have the final say very soon. 🔥
Always leaning into the "trial and error" phase of being a maker.
