TW: Domestic Violence, Colonial Violence

This piece is about domestic violence and colonial violence. I would like to share information on both of these experiences.

This is a piece that I began working on in November 2024. It feels fitting to have finished it in time for May 5.
This piece represents for me the unrelenting overwhelm of trauma & violence - and how these experiences will stick to your bones, and your very soul.

It’s been very hard to dedicate time to this piece as it is what I refer to as heart medicine. Sometimes heart medicine, while being healing, can be incredibly emotional and painful. I began this piece with encouragement from my therapist to explore my own lived traumas and experiences, as well as intergenerational traumas. My grandmother, mother and I have connected through our traumas recently. We have shared and connected how our experiences with residential school, colonial violence, family violence, and domestic violence, have left us all feeling the same kind of emptiness.
It is up to my generation to stop these cycles of violence.
