The Joint Show Comedy Contest Details:
Sign Up:
We have space for up to 10 comedians. If you wish to participate you can comment below or message the page. Sign up will be a first come, first serve basis. Once 10 comedians are signed up a waitlist will be made for any others wanting to participate; should anyone drop out or not show up by 7:30pm day of the event the spot will go to the next person on the waitlist.
Picking a winner:
In the first round comedians will be randomly divided into 2 groups. The top comedian from each group will be selected by members from the opposite group (voting will be explained at the event). Once the top 2 comedians are determined, they will go head to head in a final round and audience cheering will determine the ultimate winner. As this is a 420 event, if the top 2 comedians wish they can have a sample of (on-the-house) Devil's lettuce to enhance their final set (the audience will be informed so they are in the loop)
Rules for sets:
1. First set must be 3-4 mins long. At 3 minutes you will get a light to let you know to start wrapping it up. At 4 minutes you will get a final light and you must wrap it up in 30 seconds or be disqualified
2. The second set (applicable to top 2 only) should be 4-5 minutes long
3. Keep jokes original. If it is found that you are telling jokes that are not your own you will be disqualified
4. Please only sign up if you have previous open mic or other comedy experience. This event is not intended to be an intro to open mic comedy, rather a space to tell jokes competitively. There will be more competitions in the future. If you want to prepare for them it is suggested you attend The Effie Open Mic on Wednesdays and/or the Pizza Pi Open Mic every other Saturday
5. Please try to avoid punch down humor that alienates vulnerable groups. Keep in mind that this event will be attended by many kinds of people, so be ready for your jokes to be heard by the subjects of them. If you wouldn't tell a certain joke face to face with someone from that group maybe it is a good idea to avoid it. Since comedy is subjective and humor can be found in any topic this is not really a rule, more of a suggestion
Prizes to be announced soon
