Piunguałaq pikkunaqtualu! Huge congratulations to Piunguałaq on her 2026 JUNO Awards nomination for her debut album, Anirniliit Suli. This nomination is an achievement, not just for her, but for all Inuit: past, present, and future.

Revitalizing nearly forgotten songs is slow, dedicated work. It is a lifelong effort. Her music paves the way for young Inuit to learn, sing, and record their own Pisiit. It sparks something in each of our souls — a reminder to remember our songs, to pick up the drum and give reclamation a chance. To look back at our ancestors and acknowledge their ingenuity surviving the world’s harshest environments while still singing with joy and love for our people and culture.

Piunguałaq may not have gone home with a JUNO, but she brought pride to our ancestors and warmth to the hearts of all Inuit, and that dear friends, is the real reward.
