Such a wonderful production of King Lear by the very talented Shakespeare In the Park We love having Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society bring their shows to our stage in High River in what has become an annual tradition (6 or 8 years now?) Thank you to all who came out to watch in the heat 🥵. A full house, which we so appreciate ❤️

Saturday July 25, 2pm we are excited to welcome back to The Venue Shakespeare In the Park with their performance of KING LEAR!

King Lear is one of William Shakespeare’s darkest, and most admired, tragedies, a tale of shocking betrayal of aging fathers by their ambitious children. King Lear tries to split his kingdom into three parts, planning to give the largest section to the daughter that he loves the most, Cordelia. Cordelia, however, refuses to flatter her father and is disinherited. She then marries the King of France. Lear’s other daughters, Regan and Goneril, flatter their father and split the kingdom. They then systematically strip Lear of his remaining power, eventually leaving Lear homeless in a vicious storm. Lear’s loyal friend, Glouster, must decide which of his two sons to trust, and he too makes a terrible mistake. True love between parent and child redeems them in the end, but only after epic quests for redemption.

Winnipeg bred, Edmonton based Ben Sures Ben Sures has performed at major Canadian Folk Stages across Canada for three decades. He’s a songwriter who sees the little things we take for granted and reminds us how those everyday moments and feelings are the sum of our parts. He’s won many awards for his music, and has been featured at #1 on many public radio and college radio stations.

As always, this is a FREE pass-the-hat event with lunch offered by the High River Hospital Auxiliary. Hope to see you there!
