The ACT Making God Laugh team had a lovely time at the Western Ontario Drama League awards. Although we didn’t take home any awards, we were happy to spend the afternoon together and catch up with friends. Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners, and a special shoutout to ACT alumna Alison Enns on winning Best Supporting Actor for her portrayal of Aunt March in Theatre Woodstock’s production of Little Women.

This is incredibly sad. Arts programs play such an important role in helping children and youth discover who they are, build confidence, and find a sense of belonging and self-expression.

Please consider signing this petition to help Southwood Secondary School understand just how valuable their Drama program is, not only for Ella, but for so many students whose lives are positively shaped by the arts.

We are so excited and honoured that our November 2025 production of Making God Laugh has been nominated for three Western Ontario Drama League (WODL) awards!

A huge congratulations to Anton for bringing the wonderfully complex and hilarious character of Richard to life. Who could ever forget that unforgettable bongo solo?

Appreciation to Carol, John, and Steve for designing and building a set that felt like stepping into everyone’s family home. Working within the space limitations of the Ayr Community Centre stage (including a low ceiling and limited depth) they worked their magic, extending the stage 8 feet and creating a space that felt far bigger than it was.

A lot of went into creating the show’s atmosphere, with pre-show and intermission music curated by Michele that captured the heart of family, nostalgia, and dysfunction. It took us on a journey from the 70s right through to the 2010s.

We’re so looking forward to celebrating at the awards in May!

Congratulations as well to all of our fellow nominees and theatre friends. We’re proud to be in such wonderful company.

It was such a special evening at our Making God Laugh watch party as we had the pleasure of presenting Rob Bridel with the Viv Award for our November 2025 production.

The Viv Award is especially meaningful to us. It honours our beloved founding member, Vivienne Raynor and is given to the person who truly embodies her incredible spirit of community theatre. Rob received an overwhelming number of votes from the cast and crew of Making God Laugh and it’s easy to see why.

From his heartfelt performance as Bill, to the creative work he poured into the transition videos, Rob showed up for this production in every possible way. He rolled up his sleeves, supported his fellow cast and crew, and all with a smile during every step of the process.

The night itself felt like a beautiful family reunion. It was full of laughter, stories, and a shared love of what we created together. Capturing another Making God Laugh family photo was the perfect way to celebrate it all.

To Rob, to Vivienne’s lasting legacy, and to our incredible theatre family - we thank you. We are so proud of this production and the community that made it possible.

If you joined us for Queen Milli of Galt, you likely saw the transformation of the hall at the Queen Elizabeth Arena into a theatre space—but you may not have realized just how much work goes into making that happen.

From installing piping and drapery, to building a stage extension, assembling seating risers, and setting up technical equipment, it takes an incredible amount of time, effort, and teamwork. What isn’t always visible is the hundreds of volunteer hours behind the scenes—and the genuine joy and camaraderie that come with it.

Here’s a glimpse behind the scenes at our dedicated volunteers, cast, and crew, whose hard work and enthusiasm bring quality theatre to our community and beyond. We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we loved bringing it to life.
