Founded on the principles of creativity, exploration and flawless ex*****on, Cast-Off Industrial Designs (C.O.I.D.) produces one-of-a-kind, high-end, functional art created from reclaimed industrial era equipment and artifacts. Lovingly designed and overbuilt, our reimagined “relics” serve as conversation pieces, statement pieces and objects of beauty. Moreover, they have purpose in that they

are designed to be functional art. What exactly is functional art? We define it as any product serving a purpose beyond its role as an object of beauty. Rolling I-beam tables, castered coffee tables, “simple” and “complex” coat racks, display stands, shelving units and bookends are just a few of the products we create. Our mission statement, “Giving industrial artifacts a place of distinction” is apt, in that we begin with what most would call “rubbish” (... or worse). Love, patience and dogged determination translate these relics from “trash” to statement pieces; from objects of disdain to objects of desire. Cast-Off Industrial Designs chaperons industrial history from perdition to prominence. An outgrowth of pent up creativity, C.O.I.D. has been established to fill the needs of those looking to set themselves apart with heirloom quality, heritage pieces that create an air of exclusivity, status and prestige. Moreover, owners can pride themselves on the fact that they’ve saved industrial era history from scrap yards, landfills and metal recycling facilities. Lasting for generations and the focal point of any room:

“Our products are awash with chutzpah, weathered and elegant, flawed but robust”

Much too much time (and resources) spent fabricating this cover for the new belt/disc sander. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy with the results, it’s just... always more time consuming and expensive than I’d like.

Got a new-to-me belt/disc sander, so, of course I’m modifying it. It didn’t come with the original table for the belt portion. Began creating a new one from 1-inch x 7-inch hot rolled flat bar. Also missing were the mitre gauge and and a couple k***s; all of which are being replaced. Lastly one of the plastic dust ports was damaged during shipping. Making a new one from metal pipe. Lot a work but the whole unit only put me back $50. Money and sweat equity will round out the rest.

Continuing my organizational frenzy at work. Needed to create a home for a bunch of keyhole saws. Grabbed some dunnage, sawed and glued my way to the knife block you see here.

As with all my pieces, there's so much more going on here than meets the eye. The bolt transecting the disc is actually fastened with three flat head screws. To increase precision. A custom bushing was made for the transecting bolt/disc.

So... Progress.
