My piece for the GRIT show that is now up at B.SIDE curated by Laura Heaney and Jill Letten featuring over 60 Hamilton-based artists. If you haven’t seen this show yet, definitely go check it out!
When I was creating my piece “Salvaged” I was thinking about spaces, objects, buildings, materials being abandoned, discarded and forgotten, but in some lucky cases those things can be restored and reborn, while hopefully preserving some of their imperfections, quirks and original character. This piece was made from stitching together discarded “failed” paintings, keeping raw edges visible and stitch lines imperfect. The painting in the centre reminds me of the smoke, flames and rust of Hamilton’s industrial sector which are ever present from the windows of my studio.
