🎙️🎙️🎙️ What. A. Night! Still basking in the afterglow.
Last week, during Mental Health Week, we filled Paul O’Regan Hall at the Halifax Central Library for another Halifax Story Slam. Five storytellers stepped up in front of a room full of strangers and shared true personal stories about mental health, grief, resilience, healing, identity, and connection, all told live and without notes. The audience listened closely, laughed when it was needed, and gave each storyteller the space their story deserved.
When I started Halifax Story Slam, the goal was simple: create a space where people could connect through storytelling. This night felt like a strong reminder of why these spaces matter.
Thank you to our storytellers for their honesty and courage, and to everyone who stepped up during the open mic portion to share their own experiences and perspectives. Thank you to Rose Moore for opening the evening with live music, and to the Halifax Central Library team for hosting us.
A special thank you to Michael Amo and .hounsell for coaching and supporting our storytellers throughout the process.
Thank you as well to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia for supporting this event through their community grant program, Starr Cunningham for your encouraging remarks, and to the for being onsite throughout the evening and providing mental health resources for attendees. And Riley Smith for capturing all the amazing images 📸.
Halifax has more stories worth telling, and nights like this are a reminder that people are still looking for real spaces to listen, reflect, and connect.
