We are Maelstrom Makers, a Halifax-based collective of local artists creating works of horror and enchantment. With a combined 35 years in the industry, our mission is to shine a light on the fantastical conjurings of the human imagination.

Halcon 2025 Stock Update! (Part 2)

Happy Halloween everyone! 🎃 👻 🍭 We’re thrilled to share more of our labours leading up to Hal-Con Sci-Fi Fantasy Association (Nov 7-9). This is easily the most stock we’ve ever completed for a show, with some of our greatest hits and new designs alike. We hope to see you next weekend, in the meantime, have a spooktacular day friends.

We’ve been cooking up something special over the last few months in preparation for our exciting new panel opportunity at Hal-Con Sci-Fi Fantasy Association this year. We’re beyond pumped to bring you a new work flow for designing and bringing your creatures and characters to life. Whether it be for film or television production or simply as a hobbyist, we’re sure you’re bound to learn something new from us this year. We’re even lucky to have the wonderfully talented CasSea Creations joining us, lending her skills and expertise to the process.

We’re so pumped to be a part of Hal-Con Sci-Fi Fantasy Association again this year! We’ve been prepping loads of our greatest hits and new stock to get excited about. If you watch the locally made show “The Trades” on Crave, you may stumble onto some familiar looking miniatures in Season 2 - Episode 2. Maelstrom Makers was hired on to provide some prop designs in the form of our custom minis to a Dungeons and Dragons inspired sequence. Such a cool experience!

Stingblade Machina - Miniature

Developed as the ultimate assassin drone, the “Stingblade-Machina” unit or in some circles known as the “Hive Reaper” was designed for surgical strikes in high security environments. Built with a hyper-alloy exoskeleton resistant to most energy weapons and corrosion, this cybernetic wasp is equipped with an adaptive AI that learns from every encounter.

It’s dagger-like stinger isn’t just for piercing-it delivers a nanite payload that rapidly disassebles targets from the inside out, reducing them to raw materials for self-repair. Some of these mechanical horrors have now gone rogue, prowling derelict cities and battlefield ruins, striking down anything that threatens their growing hive.
