Parlour Tricksters: A Musical Theatre Writing Team

Parlour Tricksters: A Musical Theatre Writing Team PROJECT 2: Not ready to tell you, yet...tease!

PROJECT 1: "Parlour Tricks", musical farce about a failed Victorian mortician and his screwy assistant using a co**se to scam enough money to avoid jail...really, it's about family and redemption.

Last night were the Playwrights Guild of Canada Tom Hendry Awards and, although we didn't win the Dan School of Drama and Music Musical Award (Corey Payette for 'Starwalker: A New Musical' was the winner), the comment from the jury was flattering, "Parlour Tricks is a hilarious off-the-cuff musical with a strong book and fun songs."

They nailed exactly what Sco and I were shooting for!

On to the next creation!

I have finished the score Parlour Tricks . Forty pieces of music in total and around 360 parts and tacets, ready to go. Done . Plus I got to the finish line with a twelve hour run at it with a broken elbow 🙂 I am going to dedicate this score to my wife Bridget Quigley and daughter Carmen who have put up with me.
To Jamie Bradley , my writing partner producer and great friend, who for over thirty years has put up with me.
And to my amazing mentor, teacher, transcriber and music director, Lisa St Clair, who has put up with me. This music truly would not have happened without them.

After two weeks of our Parlour Tricks Score Workshop, the brains of Sco and Jamie are swirling with all the fantastic input our incredible workshoppers gave us!

Much thanks to our multi-talented performers: Mary Fay Coady, Brad Reid, Sarah Richardson, Danny Robichaud, Ryan Rogerson; and our indispensable Musical Director Lisa St. Clair.

Much, Much thanks to our dear friend Kel Edwards for generously hosting us at the Grafton Street Dinner Theatre (memories, memories)!

Much, Much, Much thanks to Canada Council For the Arts for the financial assistance, which made this this workshop possible!

Now, we have to ruminate, organize and format, and then "Parlour Tricks: The Musical" will be production ready!

Below are some pictures from the workshop.

Thanks everyone who supported us (especially our families)!
