👋 Meet: Charlene McConnell

🎨 Medium: Pottery

Why you’ll love her work: Working in mid-range stoneware and porcelain, Charlene uses the potter’s wheel, slabs and extrusions to create fun and functional pieces for the home and garden.

Using homemade and found stamps, leaves and collected materials from woodland hikes, she enjoys adding textures to enhance the flow of the glazes she makes in her studio. Her work is food, microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe.

Charlene delights in creating whimsical flowers and colourful sculptures for the garden and often utilizes additional firings to incorporate fused glass to add dimension and spectacular reflective properties while finalizing these creations with wire stems and metal tubing.

💬 Since completing the ceramics intensive course at the Haliburton School of Art and Design in 2005 Charlene has participated in numerous art and craft shows throughout Southern Ontario.

She has taken many courses and workshops to continually improve her skills since that time and enjoys experimenting with all the possibilities that clay offers.

👋 Meet: Heather Brownridge

🎨 Medium: Ceramics/ Fused Glass Artist

Why you’ll love her work: Heather is a very talented artist who creates whimsical hand-sculpted creatures, nature-inspired functional thrown pots, fused glass ornaments and sun catchers.

💬 "After selling my bakery of 23 years in Georgetown I moved to Haliburton where I attended the Haliburton School of Art to brush up on my rusty Pottery skills. I have been creating pottery off and on for 15 years and fell back in love with the process. At school I discovered my love for sculpting animals and hand painting colourful functional pots. Now I’m creating ceramics and glass décor full time out of my new studio at 1060 Bailey’s Road on Tedious Lake in Haliburton Ontario."

👋 Meet: Joan Callister

🎨 Medium: Acrylic and Oil Painting

Why you’ll love her work: "My large canvas works are often created on the rocky shore of our beach, the raw canvas having been soaked in the lake prior to the addition of paint."

💬 Joan Callister is a Canadian painter and photographer whose life is centered around the longest shoreline of the Great Lakes. Lake Huron has provided her with a constant source of raw beauty and wonder. While cruising on the water, she creates small works, a series entitled, “Boat Art”. " Intuitively, she abstracts her environment, capturing the immediacy of 3D emotions onto a flat surface—a vulnerable, soulful, and honest expression of her source.

👋 Meet: Jaqueline Costantini

🎨 Medium: Abstract Landscapes

Why you’ll love her work: "I would best describe my painting style as intuitive abstract. The colour selection comes either from a dream or just as a feeling.  Once the colours feel right, I start the process of layering the paint and creating forms on the canvas with a palette knife, which then flows into line making.  For me, the colours and textures represent the essence of what is in the natural environment and the lines are the essence of what connects them."

"💬 My love of art has been with me from an early age starting with a passion for architecture, design, and generally making things. I combined this with my love for helping others and after graduating with a Master's Degree from Michigan State University I embarked on a journey in the mental health field.

While I always enjoyed the arts it was only after I lost my ability to walk that I found my true passion - painting!

Painting became my therapy and during my journey back to recovery I realized I wanted to pursue this to the fullest extent possible. Once my health allowed I enrolled in the drawing and painting program at The Haliburton School of Art and Design. HSAD gave me fundamentals, support and encouragement to pursue my passion for art.  For all of this I am so grateful and I look forward to tomorrow.

👋 Meet: Barbara Simmons

🎨 Medium: Oil Painter

Why you’ll love her work: "I love the landscapes of Ontario Cottage Country and I often stop to paint them on location. I am captured by light and the effect it has on the landscape, and I try in turn to capture it on canvas."

💬 Barbara is a professional artist and a member and Past President of the Ontario Society of Artists. She is also a member of the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and the Tiny Art Collective.
