Today, we celebrated the induction of our newest sculpture by René Petitjean, “Catharsis”.
René created and gifted this work in recognition of his 25 year relationship with Fleming College - Haliburton School of Art + Design and the Haliburton Sculpture Forest.

Today, we also took the opportunity to introduce the Sculpture Forest’s new curator Nick Russell who is replacing the retiring Jim Blake after a 25 year tenure at the Forest. Board chair, Barb Bolin paid tribute to Jim’s tremendous contribution to the success and growth of the Haliburton Sculpture Forest. Jim will continue on the board in a advisory role.

Congratulations to René, Nick and Jim.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day are both observed annually on September 30th, and they are dedicated to honouring Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School system. These commemorations provide an opportunity to deepen Canada’s understanding of the intergenerational effects of residential schools and to reflect on their enduring legacy as part of the ongoing journey toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.

On September 30, Canadians are encouraged to wear orange in honour of Residential School Survivors and their families, and in remembrance of the children who never returned home.

What a fantastic day for a tour! Thank you to the Arts Council ~ Haliburton Highlands for organizing this event! Our visitors enjoyed fantastic music from Befiddled as well as Maggie Thompson on the saxophone.
This was one of the many Ontario Culture Days events in our area!

Coming up this weekend as a part of Haliburton Culture Days! Meet us at the Red Shoe a enjoy a 2 hour enhanced guided tour through the Haliburton Sculpture Forest!

You will learn more about the stories behind the sculptures and the incredible artists! Along the way, we will stop and you will discover the beauty of nature, our one-of-a-kind benches and enjoy performances from our visiting musicians.

Become part of this joyful meeting of music, art and nature with the beautiful sounds of Maggie Thompson (saxophonist). Maggie is a founding member of JoyJazz, Adverse Conditions, and Hide Tide Groove with her husband Craig Thompson.

Treat yourself to the music of Simply Befiddled, featuring talented musicians Ken Loney and Norris Turner on guitars, Beth Johns, Wendy Evenden, and Wendy Wood on violins, and Karen Armstrong on flute and penny whistles! All of these musicians play in numerous groups around the county. We are thrilled to have them in the Haliburton Sculpture Forest!
