With its delicate pink blooms and fresh spring colours, Apple Blossom captures the beauty of a season that never seems to last quite long enough.

๐ŸŽจ Community Wellness Wall Project ๐ŸŽจ

This summer, ArtWorks East is proud to support the Community Wellness Wall Project at the Cast Away Cafe in Guysborough as part of Good Karma Handmade Goods & Artโ€™s Wednesday Wellness Days.

Using paints, markers, coloured pencils, collage materials, oil pastels, writing prompts, and more, participants are invited to explore themes of wellness, creativity, connection, belonging, and community through art and self-expression.

Create a painting, drawing, collage, poem, reflection, or something entirely your own. Take it home, contribute it to the wall, or do both.

Over the summer, the wall will gradually grow into a quilt-like collage of community-created artwork and reflections, creating a visual snapshot of the people, stories, creativity, and connections that make up our community.

Wednesday Wellness Days also feature alternating tarot reading days and Good Karma pop-up market days throughout the summer.

โœจ FREE to participate
โœจ No registration required
โœจ Open to all ages

๐ŸŽ Contribute to the Wellness Wall and be entered to win a Good Karma gift bundle at the end of the summer.

After nearly a year of planning, problem-solving, and a few unexpected detours along the way, weโ€™re excited to officially launch the online artist page and e-commerce shop for ArtWorks East member Eva Schulz! ๐ŸŽ‰

Originally from central western Germany and now calling Canada home for nearly 30 years, Evaโ€™s life is deeply rooted in the simple pleasures of rural living. Whether sheโ€™s tending her greenhouse, gardening, baking, preserving, or caring for her home, much of her day-to-day life is centred around patience, routine, and working with her hands. ๐ŸŒฑ

Her artwork, however, often emerges from a very different place.

Evaโ€™s abstract paintings are driven by intuition, emotion, and spontaneity. Through bold colours, expressive movement, and energetic brushwork, she embraces the freedom of the creative process, allowing each piece to evolve naturally on the canvas. The result is a fascinating contrast between the slower rhythms of everyday life and the vibrant energy found in her art.

Whether youโ€™re unable to visit our Summer Gallery in person, live outside the area, or simply prefer to browse from home, you can now explore and purchase Evaโ€™s work online.

Many of Evaโ€™s pieces will also be on display at the ArtWorks East Summer Gallery this season. If you discover a piece you love but arenโ€™t able to take it home with you, you can always visit her online shop later. Free shipping is available within Canada. International buyers are welcome to contact Eva directly using the information provided on her artist page to discuss shipping options.

You can also find Eva at the Shire To Shore Community Market on Sundays throughout the summer season. While youโ€™re in the area, be sure to stop by Hortonโ€™s Cove Farm, located just a few minutes outside of Guysborough, where Eva offers fresh produce, preserves, and other farm-grown and homemade goods.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Visit Evaโ€™s artist page and her artwork in our online shop:

Join us in celebrating this exciting milestone and exploring Evaโ€™s collection. ๐ŸŽจ

Congratulations, Eva! We are delighted to welcome you and your work to the ArtWorks East e-commerce platform and look forward to sharing your creativity with art lovers near and far.

๐ŸŽญ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŽถ Guysborough Arts Festival โ€“ In Good Company

From July 14โ€“19, the Guysborough Arts Festival will bring our community together for a week of art, music, theatre, workshops, and other fun creative activities.

Built around the theme In Good Company, the festival celebrates neighbours, community connections, and the many ways we come together to create, learn, and share experiences. Festival programming will include live music, hands-on workshops, visual arts, theatre, wellness activities, and opportunities to explore connections between art, science, and the natural world.

Hosted across a variety of community venues throughout Guysborough, the festival is made possible through the efforts of local artists, performers, organizations, volunteers, and community members working together to celebrate creativity in Guysborough County.

ArtWorks East is proud to be part of this exciting new festival and looks forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for a week of inspiration, discovery, and community. โค๏ธ

We would like to take a moment to wish two very special people, who have meant so much to this organization and our community, a very happy 50th anniversary! ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿ’•

It is difficult to imagine where ArtWorks East would be today without Jack and Lee. Their vision, dedication, and unwavering belief in this place have helped shape not only our organization, but also the communities we call home.

Sometimes it takes someone on the outside to hold up a mirror for us to truly see our own strengths, and here in Guysborough County, thatโ€™s exactly what Jack and Lee have done. They have helped us see ourselves not through the lens of what weโ€™ve lost, but through the lens of what remains. They have reminded us of our talent, our creativity, our resilience, and our ability to build something meaningful together.

For those of us who have witnessed the many changes our rural communities have faced over the years, from declining populations to the loss of services and young people moving away, Jack and Lee have been a powerful force for hope. Together, they have helped ignite a renewed sense of pride, possibility, and shared responsibility. They have shown us what can happen when people come together with a common purpose and a belief in one another.

Perhaps there is a lesson in their 50 years of marriage that extends beyond their personal lives. That lesson is the importance of partnership, compromise, mutual respect, and moving forward together. It is living with the understanding that no one gets left behind, that success is something to be shared, and that challenges are not meant to be faced alone, but together as a team.

In many ways, their work in the community reflects the strength of their union. Together, they have moved some very big mountains, and for that, they should be extremely proud of themselves, because we at ArtWorks East are certainly proud of them and are beyond grateful for all they have done to help shape our organization and community.
We are also grateful that a little bit of Jack and Leeโ€™s story has become part of our own. Their impact will be felt for generations to come.

So hereโ€™s to 50 years of love, partnership, community building, and inspiring others. And while it may be a bit of a stretch, we hope we can get at least 50 more years out of you both! Haha!

Happy Anniversary, Jack and Lee, and thank you for everything you have given to this community!

- from all of us at ArtWorks East โค๏ธ
