Our gallery is open today, Sunday, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. If you’re travelling in from a distance, please take care and check the road conditions before heading out, especially with flooding affecting some areas. 🌧️

But if you’re close by and looking for something to do, why not mosey on down and take a look around? There’s plenty of local artwork to discover, including these prints by Jen Yang, this sailboat by Gerald Fitzgerald, made from pieces of weathered wood, lobster rope art by Eileen Dixon, and these fun crocheted characters by Kathleen Hicks. 🧶💕

We’ll be closed Monday and Tuesday, then reopen Wednesday. Come have a wander and see what catches your eye. 👀🎨

I’m planning a fun creative workshop for October where participants will learn about the Fool’s Journey through the Major Arcana, partake in some reflective exercises with the cards, and then have a chance to create a collage piece reflecting where they are on their own journey inspired by one of Major Arcana cards, combing themes of multiple cards, or creating an entirely new archetype.

Join ArtWorks East at the Summer Gallery on the Guysborough Waterfront on Saturday, September 5 from 11 AM–3 PM for a special Rope Basket Demo Day with local maker and AWE member Christine Bray. 🪢🧺

Come by for a close-up look at how rope baskets are made, explore different materials and techniques, and even try some weaving yourself by contributing to a community basket.

And there will also be a chance to enter for your chance to win a Rope Beach Basket! 🌊

When you venture into our gallery, you’ll quickly see just how diverse our artists’ work can be. Each artist has their own way of seeing the world and transforming it into a work of art that offers a glimpse into their inner world, where their experiences, perceptions, and personality all find their way into what they create. 🎨

There may be similarities in subject or inspiration, but it’s the how that makes each piece unique. The same landscape, idea, or moment can be captured in so many different ways, depending on the perspective of the person behind the artwork.

Featured here are the works of Joy Weir and Christine MacIsaac, two artists with very different approaches and styles. 👩‍🎨💕

Congratulations to Scarlett Madam whose artwork is now on display on the Municipality of the District of Guysborough’s website throughout the month of September for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation! Scarlett is the daughter of AWE member Sarah Mason, and granddaughter of AWE member Sandy Winter. 🪶🧡
