CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!
Hello intelligent, creative, and community oriented people,
I am writing to invite you to submit to the zine that I am creating. Our theme is community response and accountability regarding gendered oppression. Our belief is that everybody has a place in this conversation and complacency must end. We intend to heal in the process of sharing our stories and learn how to help each other heal. Everybody has been harmed by the existing power structures!
I really believe that everything from expecting boys not to talk about their feelings to s*xual violence is related, and that meaningful solutions can be reached through cooperation and collaboration.
As highschool students, you are in the thick of a critical period of learning and formative experiences in the areas of gender, s*xuality, and living with trauma (your own or others'). I believe that a meaningful exploration of these themes requires input from your perspective! I have learned so much by talking to my brother about it, for example he talked to me about the idea that sometimes males are engaged in things without full consent becuase of the expectation that boys always want s*x so if the girl wants it, its happening. I had never thought of this before, and I think we can all learn a lot by sharing our experiences!
