Alice
-Deaf girl with hearing aids, 12
-the lead, never talks, only signs (conversational as well as a poem)
ASL knowledge is not required as it will be taught however we are looking for a girl with bright facial features and lots of expression and body language.

Will read with other characters for auditions and will require a couple of scenes on the day of the auditions however the main scene will be with the mother. Video of the signs will be posted but it's okay if the signing isn't perfect. It's the intention that matters.

Mother
-Focused on what's best for her daughter
-Speaks for the majority of the play but uses ASL at the end
-generally strict but kind

Knowledge of sign isn't necessary for the audition

Liz/Mark
-best friend of Alice
-comic relief
-speaks and does some sign throughout the play

Knowledge of sign isn't necessary for the audition

Rachel (Bully)
-Antagonist of the show
-speaking role only
-12 year old girl in Alice's class

Teacher
-Male role originally but can be female
-speaking role only but purposely drops lines to replicate Alice's difficulty hearing
(... represents dropped lines. Mouth what is supposedly said but speak what is written in the script)

Chorus
-5 people male or female
-wear masks and represent several different roles in the play (Alice's inner emotions/thoughts, her nightmares, and other students in the school)
-require speaking, signing, and lots of movement
-prior knowledge is not necessary but would be appreciated

Audition requirements are signing and speaking at the same time. A video will be posted of the signing.
