I never intended to begin working with wood windows. It was a calling that landed in my hands by complete accident! Here’s part of the story…
My passion in stained glass has always been window building. I always said I wanted to build and install big windows into homes. The stained glass skills were there however the installation skills hadn’t developed yet.
Fast forward to 2024 and it’s Summer time at the store and the summer is typically our slow season (except this year we are incredibly busy 🙏 thank you thank you!!) I’m trying to drum up business because well we got bills to pay. 💸 I get this idea in my head that I want to do architectural glass windows. I begin researching glazing, glazier courses, researching other businesses models and so on. This got overwhelming fast. All of a sudden I need a work truck, a team of professionals and a clue of what a professional glazier even does. 🤷♀️ I didn’t put any action in because something wasn’t quite aligned but I mark this as the beginning. Six years ago someone asked me to strip and glaze a window in six hours and I failed miserably. But that’s a story for another time. 🤣 I mark Summer 2024 as My first attempt to enter into the realm of architectural glass … 🪟
The story continues when a client reached out and asked me to rebuild her stained glass window. I opened the photo she sent and it was installed into a WOOD FRAME. I naturally said yes even though I had no idea how I would get it out. I started calling people to help… I knew some people who worked in this industry but I didn’t really know what I was asking them to do for me. Guys, I almost rented scaffolding. I found someone to remove the window and I asked to watch because I was bewildered that this thing even could be removed at all.
After this, I continued to get jobs in that required glazing, frames and stained glass installed into wood frames. I began to seek education on wood window repair and a random ad popped up on my instagram for a Window Preservation Alliance workshop in Missouri(?) 😅 I bought a freaking ticket and went to Missouri by myself to meet a group of wood window enthusiasts?!
