À tous les deux ans depuis 2008, la Foire d’art alternatif de Sudbury (FAAS) occupe et transforme un espace public au centre-ville de la capitale du nickel. Selon le concept et les paramètres de l’édition en question, les artistes ont le défi de réaliser une nouvelle œuvre dans un espace physique et temporel limités.
À l’occasion de la cinquième FAAS, les artistes occuperont un terrain de station
nement en plein cœur du centre-ville de Sudbury et chacun aura à sa disposition un abri en canevas de la taille d’une place de stationnement. La nature éphémère de la FAAS, où les installations et les performances d’artistes apparaissent et disparaissent en très peu de temps, évoque la magie, le fantastique et l’irréel. C’est dans ce contexte que les artistes de la FAAS 5 seront invités à créer un espace singulier où ils mettront à défi leur créativité sur la très grande scène de l’Univers. Une trentaine d’œuvres émergeront comme par enchantement sous les yeux de la communauté qui sera encouragée à suivre de près le processus de création. L’évènement se terminera avec un vernissage des installations et une soirée performance sous le chapiteau de la FAAS. C’est avec un clin d’œil sur le concept et en référence à la fameuse incantation des magiciens que la GNO a surnommé la cinquième FAAS « Abricadabri ». Every two years since 2008, the Fair of Alternative Art in Sudbury (FAAS) has occupied and transformed a public space in the nickel city’s downtown. Invited artists are challenged to complete new works over the course of the festival and according to each edition’s concept and theme. For the fifth FAAS, artists will occupy a parking lot in the heart Downtown Sudbury. Each artist will work with a canvas shelter that fits inside an individual parking space. The FAAS’ ephemeral nature evokes all that is magical, fantastic, and surreal. Installation and performance art appears in a public space and disappears in a very short time. It is within this context that FAAS 5 artists will be invited to create a singular space where they will put their creativity to the test on the largest possible stage: the Universe. Thirty new works of art will emerge, as if by some enchantment, before the community’s eyes. Members of the public are encouraged to follow the creative process closely. The event will conclude with the unveiling of the finished installations and an evening of performance under the FAAS’ Big Top. With a wink and a nod to the concept, and a reference to the infamous magical incantation, the GNO has nicknamed the 5th FAAS “Abricadabri” (abri being the French word for shelter).
