🎬 TONY is coming to the Indie this Friday!!

One of the year’s most anticipated titles, TONY, the Anthony Bourdain biopic, opens Friday, October 2 at 7 PM!

Directed by Matt Johnson (BlackBerry, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie), the film features an incredible cast including Antonio Banderas, Leo Woodall, and Dominic Sessa, who returns to the Indie after starring in The Holdovers two winters ago.

TONY follows a young Anthony Bourdain as he walks into a restaurant kitchen looking for a job - and finds a world far more chaotic, intense, and alive than he expected.

BEWARE: Frights and world-class cinema lay ahead!! Our month is stocked with scares and stars alike, with equally robust theatrical and events slate.

October, theatrically is bookended by two of the year's most anticipated titles. Tony, the Anthony Bourdain biopic by Matt Johnson opens on the 2nd! Opening October 30th is Primetime, the 3rd of leg star Robert Pattinson’s world-conquering four-film 2026. Pattinson portrays TV’s Chris Hansen in Auteur-Documentarian Lance Oppenheim's narrative feature debut.

Also opening for us are two fantastic french features. Recently having opened at Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival and starring Louis Garrel, the coming-of-age dramedy Juste une illusion begins its run on the 8th. And Black Zombie, the anticipated Canadian doc unearthing the deep roots of Zombie fiction and its connection with Haitian slavery.

Thanksgiving weekend, while you’re preparing an excellent meal, get some peace and quiet by sending your relatives our way! Saturday, the first of two Halloween Cereal Cartoon Party (October 10th and 24th), features 70s/80s/90s cartoons and an all you can eat cereal bar. That night the Addams Family arrives in style at the Indie with the 1993 classic Addams Family Values. Abya Yala Latin American Film Festival presented by Frames and Frequencies Artist Collective returns for its 2nd edition with three days of screenings, Q&As, dance, community events and more!

Back by popular demand, we’ve got a 6-show encore run of Teenage S*x & Death at Camp Miasma. Mooncrater Theatre is back for 3 shows with the world’s greatest shadowcast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And finally, cancel your plans because you’re not going to want to miss the special October 31st screening of John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween!!

The caring yet bustling environment of a kindergarten serves as the anchor for this deep dive into early childhood. JULIAN opens today at the Indie!

A sentimental and stirring true story about a tragic romance and the fight for q***r rights, JULIAN is based on Fleur Pierets’ memoir of the same name. The film tells the story of Pierets (Nina Meurisse) and Julian P. 🎬 This Friday at 6 PM, join Frames and Frequencies Artist Collective for their fundraiser night and help kick off the 2nd Abya Yala Latin American Film Festival, coming this October! The evening features a mysterious family-friendly movie screening, silent auction, and more surprises!

🥣 This Saturday, we’re bringing our classic All-You-Can-Eat Cereal Cartoon Party to the Thorneloe University campus for the very first time! Kick off the new school year with unlimited bowls of cereal and three hours of nostalgic retro cartoons, classic commercials, and PSAs!

🐱 Next Saturday, join us for a purr-fect afternoon featuring 80 minutes of fabulous felines while supporting local cats! 10% of ticket sales will go to Small Things CATS, and Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter will be joining us with some feline friends! The Japanese box office blockbuster, Kurosawa Kiyoshi’s latest, THE SAMURAI AND THE PRISONER now playing at the Indie!

A New York Times CRITIC'S PICK and "A MUST-SEE MASTERPIECE" from The Daily Beast, THE SAMURAI AND THE PRISONER is set in Japan’s war-ravaged 16th century. This genre-bending samurai tale follows Murashige (Masahiro Motoki), a feudal lord who betrays the warlord Oda and renounces the bushido code - only to face four mystifying crimes, one for each season of the story. Cunning strategist Kanbei (Suda Masaki, CLOUD), imprisoned in the fortress’s dungeon, yields answers.
