Our grand opening of 𝗠𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗢𝗢 𝗠𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻 was a day to remember. Thank you to everyone who travelled from near and far, and a special thank you to Chief Irene Kells of Zhiibaahaasing First Nation and Councillor Richard Shawanda of Whitefish River First Nation for joining us to represent their communities. Your presence meant a great deal to us and to the artists.

Thank you as well to the artists, their families, and everyone who helped make today a success.

A celebration of the Indigenous artists of Manitoulin Island, featuring Mel Madahbee, John Laford, Peter Migwans, Stewart Migwans, Eleanor Kanasawe, Ivan Shawana, Don Ense, Mel Ense, Stanley Panamick, James Mishibinijima, Leonard Beam, Carl Beam and many more.

The show includes two monumental paintings from 1980, each about 4 by 8 feet: Peter Migwans' "All We Have," shown publicly for the first time, and John Laford's largest known canvas.

It ranges from emerging artists' originals to rare masterworks, including Peter Migwans' "All We Have" (1980) in its first public showing and John Laford's largest known canvas.
