Mended dog stuffies live stronger, longer than before.
Tea towels dry better where patched in layers.
Clothes with holes stitched closed, wear another year more or many.

Everything lasts longer when we tend to the frays.

If only we valued what we have before it all unravels.
If only we cared for all our broken threads.

I’ve never entered mostly because I thought it had to be landscape … which mostly makes me want to pull my hair out. I wish I liked doing landscape, I love looking at landscape paintings, I admire SO many landscape artists… but I quite dislike doing them for the most part.

I only learned this year that not everything entered is landscape, but to see this change has me very, very excited!
I may or (more likely) not enter this year, but either way, I CANNOT wait to see all the submissions this year!!

Artists! It’s time. Our annual art competition is approaching fast. We are teaming up with Pattison Media for “Beauty of the Peace”. As of this year I am changing the title up a bit. Going forward it will be called Artists of the Peace. The reasoning is I want to see artists best work. Beauty of the Peace implies it’s a landscape competition which it was 30 years ago but now we want to see a variety of works, like last year with Megan Auxi. Submission window is Feb 17-27 and voting March 3-21 Announce March 23 Artists of the Peace 2026. *I did adjust the dates as I copied last years dates but they did not align properly with a 2026 calendar.

It’s been on my mind lately to do a couple more like these (see album for the other)
As much as I seem to prefer super flat, opaque paint… I have such an idea bank (just waiting for time) in my brain thats love using odd materials in new ways! I’ve seen so many different artists embroider on screen since then, even using old strainers etc! I love it so much!
Do you follow anyone who uses unique materials?
Please share!

With this piece I wanted to highlight the tools and items of local industry in the Peace country- all that drives our local *everything*.
It was originally intended to sit adjacent to the form of a soon-to-be series, but as all art tends to do, it morphed with idea and creation. There are still things missed I wish I had included.

Thank you to those who offered feedback on what to include and those who offered items for reference.
An especially BIG thank you to the family that let me raid their shop, barn, bale shed and yard for items! Even a piece of fence was sacrificed for a chunk of barb-wire!! It now hangs permanently on my inspo cork-board above my studio desk- sentimentality and all.

As a born and country raised Peace Country, I always intended to get back to dirt roads and times I have wanted to leave here altogether.
GP is forever home now it seems, as this area has seeped deeper into my bones.
The romance that brings many here, becomes embodied in the people and promise that make me happily stay.
