Last weekend held one of our favourite events so far this year. A happy couple chose our venue as the home for their wedding reception and did it in style. Definitely the first wedding we’ve seen with a video wall, fog geysers, and a light show.

We can host all type of events in our black box! If you’ve got something coming up, give us a call at 780 831-9455 and see what we can do for you

GP Children's Theatres next visit is their Musical Theatre Camp for ages 10 to 17. Last week's camp was a lot of fun and we're looking forward to seeing the fun the kids will be having with this camp!

"This is the logical next step from the Kinder Camp, one that will take our students from theatre novices to certified bohemians. You'll learn the next level of acting, singing, and dancing--and even learn how to prepare yourself for an audition out in the wide world of theatre."

“From Bikini Bottom to Crunchem Hall, and all the way around Wonka’s chocolate factory, our young performers lit up the stage all spring long.

Thank you, Grande Prairie, for cheering them on every step of the way. We’re wrapping for the year… but the magic starts all over again next season 🎭🎩”

It’s only been six months, but 2026 has been full of excitement—from April until just last weekend, the youth of Grande Prairie kept our stage alive and our seats full; with productions of the SpongeBob Musical, Matilda the Musical, Wonka, Jr., and We Open Tomorrow Night. If you attended, volunteered, played in, or supported any of these productions, thank you for being a part of our vibrant community.

The Grande Prairie Music Society gathered the city’s best singers under our roof for their Valentines Day Event in February, and the Bear Creek Folk Fest once again called us home for their 2026 line-up reveal and Secondhand Dream Car concert. Grande Prairie Regional Sports Connection gave us an inspiring speaker session with Renée Sonnenberg and Across the Floor Dance Studio and Ark Dance Academy put on a couple of awesome dance recitals.

As we roll into the summer, would you believe we’ve got 2 youth camps, an educational camp, and a wedding in the same month? Thank you all for being a part of this journey, and we can’t wait to see what you’ve got for us next.

Afton is not only an amazingly talented and versatile singer, but she is also a talented actor! She is sure to impress anyone that is going to see Grande Prairie Opera's upcoming production of The Daughter of the
Regiment (La Fille du Regiment).

This comic opera is one of Donizetti's best-known works, with wonderful recognizable melodies and laugh out loud moments, is one of opera's most entertaining and accessible works

Thursday, June 18 and Friday Jun 19 ⦁ 7:00pm
The Douglas J. Cardinal Theatre (NWP)

This next singer is one of Grande Prairie's respected local performers! She is extraordinarily versatile in many different musical genres, including Opera!

Mezzo-Soprano, Afton Wrzosek (La Marquise)

Afton was born and raised in Grande Prairie, Alberta. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she graduated with High Distinction in 2013 as a mezzo-soprano. During that time, Afton studied with tenor Robert Swensen. Since returning to Grande Prairie, she has been an active participant in productions by Grande Prairie Live Theatre, as well as been a guest singer for the Peace Region Music Series. In 2019, she placed 2nd in the Alberta Provincial Music Festival’s Vocal Excellence Class.

In 2020, she spent a year studying classical voice with soprano Monica Huisman at the University of Manitoba, where she also mentored under esteemed opera director Katherine Twaddle, and baroque baritone Mel Braun. At the age of 16, Afton left Grande Prairie to finish high school in Michigan, at Interlochen Arts Academy, a performing arts high school. Prior to leaving Grande Prairie, Afton was a long-time student of Ellyn Otterson. She is a lover of both classical music and musical theatre; favourite roles and performances include Bianca in The R**e of Lucretia (Eastman Opera), twins Julia and Jessica in The Last Resort (GPLT), Cathy in The Last Five Years (GPLT), and singing Handel’s The Messiah at Carnegie Hall with the Grande Prairie Regional College Community Choir in 2018. In June of 2025, Afton performed the role of Madame De L'haltiere in GP Opera's Production of Cinderella (Cendrillon).
