The public is cordially invited to join the Manitoulin Plein Air painters for a 'Meet & greet' and opening reception of the 4th Annual exhibition of works painted outdoors, on site, across Manitoulin Island during the official festival painting period of 2026 (April through August).
The opening reception will be held at Studio 6 - Gore Bay Harbour Centre (40 Water St, Gore Bay, ON) on:

Saturday August 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The exhibition features fresh-off-the-easel paintings, field sketches including landscapes in different media by 12 Manitoulin Plein Air group member artists.

For this year (2026) a decision was approved to ditch the annual awards for the sake of building a non-competitive community of artists who compete against their own standards to improve their skills, and to support each other.

Camaraderie and the love of painting outdoors is what leads this group. We have no sponsors or grants. We are 100% supported by volunteers from within the group. In lieu of awards, in 2026 we are honouring the artists with participation ribbons (To artists who qualify by attending at least two group paint-outs and submit paintings to the show). The 2026 exhibition is not a juried show. We hope you will enjoy viewing the paintings and talking to the artists about what they love about painting outdoors, it is a challenging art technique, you have to love it to do it! And you have to have the time to do it, not always possible in a busy summer on Manitoulin Island. So we are delighted to feature the work of 13 artists from the group for this particular show! Please remember to vote for the 'People's Choice Award' when you visit, this is the only award this year, and it will be voted for by the public who view the show at Studio 6 between August 29 and September 12.

We are delighted to host the Manitoulin Plein Air festival exhibition! Manitoulin Art Tour weekend.
Come and visit us with Sharon Alkenbrack, Mark Seabrook and Paulette Stewart in the house this weekend.
Studio 6 is open for extended days and hours just for Manitoulin Art Tour Weekend to accommodate our friends who drive a long distance to get to Gore Bay!
