The Livery Theatre • Goderich Little Theatre A home for the arts in historic downtown Goderich
www.thelivery.ca By 1878 A. M. In 1974 it was transformed into a building centre.

"We may not be BIG, but we're small"

Records indicate that the rear portion of The Livery was erected during the 1840's as a harness shop by Samuel Seegmuller, trader in hides and whiskey along the Huron Trail between Guelph and Goderich. Polley had added two sections, also in Maitland River stone, to the front of the early shop to accommodate his livery stable business. After the turn of the ce

ntury, when horses gave way to automobiles, the building became the first local car dealership. By 1978 it was slated for demolition. Goderich Town Council, however, recognizing the historical importance of the building, forestalled the demolition, allowing time for a private citizen, interested in the preservation of historic buildings, to intervene with a down payment on the property. A local architect recognized its potential as a theatre. Soon, a group of enthusiasts formed the Goderich Arts Foundation, dedicated to the recycling of The Livery as a focal point for promotion of the Arts. The Livery building was purchased by the Goderich Little Theatre (GLT), with the support of this community, several years later. The Livery, as a non-profit corporation under the GLT, opened in 1983 as the community’s Arts Centre and has met with much success in the last two decades.

A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers who rolled up their sleeves, grabbed their shovels, garden tools, and gloves, and spent their time caring for the beautiful garden at the Livery, earlier this week.

Our historic building is more than just a theatre, it's a community gathering place, and it takes dedicated people to help keep it looking its best. We are so fortunate to have such devoted and generous GLT members who give their time, energy, and talents to help maintain this special space. Thank you for helping our gardens bloom and for showing such pride in our beloved Livery.

Some of our more unusual requests include, dust covers for Steve Marsh’s best selling novels, legal sized copies of Pam Marsh’s Dad’s will, an envelope of $100 bills to pay off Chris Dodd’s ransom demands (yup – we asked for a bag of cash – and got it 😊), small run corrections to typos and so much more – all delivered in record time with a smile!! We love our local printer!

Tech Team lights up the Stage!
It takes a team effort to produce live theatre and the tech team is critical to our viewing experience.

Seen hard at work Silver Dagger Stage Manager Kathryn Wettlaufer, Assistant Technical Director Erin Donald and Lighting Technician Bransen Pope had everything well under control for Thursday night’s Performance.

These highly skilled technicians keep the stage lit, make thunder and lightning appear when needed. Phones ring, gunshots fire and phone messages are replayed all thanks to the focus and keen attention of the tech crew led by Technical Director Chris Armour (not shown).

Special thanks to local thespian Art James who stepped in to help out in the tech booth last weekend, a change from his usual lead roles on stage most recently as Michael Minetti in the award-winning Six Dances in Six Weeks featured on the front page of this week’s Goderich Sun.

Lisa Justine Gill as Chris Dodd.
Lisa Justine Gill is a seasoned actress and well known with the Goderich Little Theatre, so it’s not surprising that she brings such intelligence and intensity to her role as Chris Dodd in Silver Dagger. With many Livery productions to her credit including Elizabeth Rex, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and more, Gill is enjoying a new experience as she is appearing onstage alongside her husband and “greatest scene partner for life”, Jesse Gill. Audiences are treated to bold interactions between this lively and talented couple.

One of Lisa’s greatest strengths is the ability to become whoever the story needs her to be. Like a chameleon, she transforms effortlessly, yet somehow always manages to stand out. Her portrayal of Chris Dodd brings depth, energy, and unexpected layers to this intriguing character. Smart, determined, and unwilling to back down, Chris Dodd finds herself caught up in the mystery surrounding Steve Marsh. As secrets begin to surface, she becomes a key player in a dangerous game where appearances can be deceiving and motives are rarely what they seem.

Is she seeking justice, revenge, or something else entirely? Find out in Silver Dagger at the Livery Theatre.
