Umiyaqtutt Festival A celebration for finding Erebus and Terror, which may not have been possible w/o Inuit knowledge.

In September 2017, Parks Canada will host an Umiyaqtutt Festival the first annual Northwest Passage celebration event held in Gjoa Haven. Focused on the theme “Encounters Along the Northwest Passage’’, this week-long event will celebrate the discoveries of the wrecks of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, the important role of Inuit in the finds and in cooperative management of the national historic site,

and Gjoa Haven’s many connections to the Northwest Passage. The Hamlet of Gjoa Haven, Government of Nunavut, Parks Canada and Gjoa Haven community members will work closely together to deliver a week to remember.
