With its unique octagonal building and muskox-inspired design, the Centre is a living repository of Inuit life, ancestry, and artistry. The Nattilik Heritage Centre in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut, opened in 2013. Inside the protective musk ox circle of the building the Nattilik people present themselves through stories, images, local Inuit art and craft. Here you can experience the northern lights over Ba

ck River, informative interpretive displays on local wildlife, objects from the Roald Amundsen collection repatriated to Gjoa Haven for the opening of the Heritage Centre and so much more. The art gallery has a wide range of local arts and crafts on display. Carvings and wall hangings by local Nattilik Inuit artists are prominent. Ullulaq Inuit Arts sells and ships artwork to buyers all over the world. The objects of the Society are:
To facilitate and promote Inuit arts and crafts, culture, heritage and history with an aim towards tourism, and public education, and to develop associated economic opportunities. This will include: a. enhancing existing and future tourism on behalf of people in and around Gjoa Haven, Nunavut with a focus on cultural, natural, and heritage resources;a. enhancing existing and future tourism on behalf of people in and around Gjoa Haven, Nunavut with a focus on cultural, natural, and heritage resources; working together within the tourism and eco-tourism industries:d. assisting with other economic development opportunities \Vhich provide social, economic, or cultural benefit to beneficiaries under the Nunavut Land Claim agreement who reside in or around Gjoa Haven. Developing interpretation and other programs in order to strengthen Inuit culture and language; and generating employment and developing the Centre with a view to promoting the above objects.

We are proud to present you the website for Gjoa Haven's Oral History Project. Big thanks to Mark Stoller and Queen's university for supporting our project throughout the years.

Here you can find many stories from Elders. Also learn about the youth who are part of the important work they are doing.

The Hivumuuniaqtugut Oral History Project is a youth-oriented oral history program working to document, share, and preserve stories, histories, language, and culture of the Nattilik region.
