1)Our purpose is to support the young dancers/students of the Sunshine Coast and to foster the love of dance as a fine art form through the avenue of a community dance experience.

2)To provide a fair and healthy dance experience with the goal to unite the Sunshine Coast students/dancers, teachers and local dance schools in an e

nvironment where respect, fairness and unbiased opportunity to all parties can thrive.

3)To foster and facilitate dance education opportunities through mentorship from local/national/international professionals for all SCYDA dance student members.

4)To provide its members monetary bursaries/scholarships/mentorship which promotes and encourages local dance students to further their dance education.

5)To assist “The New Directors Collective” committee with performance venues rental, additional workshop, rehearsal venue, equipment rental, costumes purchase and all expenses to facilitate the annual Sunshine Coast Nutcracker production or any future community collective production with the same purpose and opportunity for all members.

6)To encourage and support artistic collaborations between local dance schools, amateur artists and professional dance artists and local youth groups with similar artistic vision. SCYDA support the love of dance as a fine art form and an avenue of creative expression. SCYDA support and encourage artistic collaboration between youth and established artists in the performing arts. Sunshine Coast Youth Dance Association - the History
In 2013 Sunshine Coast Youth Dance Association (SCYDA) was formed as the funding and supporting organization for the youth local dancers from Dsdanse Youth Dance company, helping them to provide challenging dance opportunity. The program objective was to develop leadership and mentorship skills in a non-competitive environment. Over the years SCYDA has supported over 60 local dancers with local , national and international dance opportunities. Helping raised over $200k since it insertion and offering various Scholarship and Bursary for some Local dancers.

• 2013 - 2019 International dance day celebration in local School performance.
• 2013 - 2016 Shout out - Gibsons Public arts Gallery - Dance performance
• 2015 - Both sides Now - Gibsons Public arts Gallery Dsdanse Guest Dancers for Joni Mitchell inspired art work presentation.
• 2015 - DSdanse Canada / Belgium cultural exchange DSdanse was invited to Belgium to participate in a cultural dance ex-change with a youth dance company (aged 12 – 16) during the summer of 2015. Belgium was commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War 1. The Canada Belgium Dance Exchange project includes performing with Cie Ph/f/ase, a Belgium youth dance company while representing Canada’s engagement in World War 1 with the Second Battle of Ypres. The Belgium youth dance company, came to the Sunshine Coast in July of that same summer . Creating a special WW1 commemorative dance performance at the Heritage Playhouse.
• 2017 - The Majestic project In local school - a 22-minute, multi-media presentation that blends music, dance and video. Choreographed by the young dancers themselves, the project centre around the Pacific Ocean. Against a backdrop of stunning imagery from local film maker Dolf Vermeulen and set to music composed by Zack Hemsey, were the dancers moved through a series dances that represent their connection and feelings about the Salish Sea.
• February 2018 - The Majestic project in Victoria , presented to Vancouver Island school district School.
• Summer 2018 - Invitation to Macau International Youth Dance festival , Representing Canada at a 2018 Youth Dance festival of Macau, China.

Bon Voyage!!Our Company grads are Barcelona bound where they received invitation to participate in the Cooking Dance Festival and a one month Ballet & Contemporary Intensive. It’s festival weekend! We can’t wait to watch all the local talent at The Coastal Dance Festival this weekend. Everyone’s welcome, entry is by donation. Saturday features the stage genres (jazz, tap, hip hop, Acro and musical theatre) from 9:30-4. Sunday will feature the Ballet, Contemporary, and Modern from 9:30-4. See you there!
