The HERO SHOW is an unforgettable night of solo sketch comedy full of fun weird characters, musical acts, comedic readings, and anything else these comedians want to try. The only rule: no classic stand up.

Do you know when you meet someone and you are struck with the thought, this person is the rarest of human beings ~ there has never been, and will never be another, who is this real, this honest, this brilliant, this beautiful, this tortured, this compassionate, this complicated…
Donovan Patrick Mahoney was all of that and more. He was this one-of-kind, electrifying combination of toughness and bad-assery, empathy and compassion, hilarity and genius. He was a gentle yet tortured soul, a wordsmith, an advocate, a world traveller, a truth-seeker, and a goofball. He saw right into the heart of people ~ whether they were friends or complete strangers. He saw the beauty and soul of people who were invisible to others, particularly those who had been pushed to the furthest margins of society, the people that most would look away from. He knew their stories and their joys and their sorrows, and wanted to show their shining light to the world. He was a true friend to many, he was a true friend to me. We had been talking for years about him coming to my classroom, which is located next to the shíshálh Nation, to share his experiences as a Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw person from the ʼNa̱mǥis Territory who was a survivor of the sixties scoop, which refers to a time period in which the Canadian government’s Child Welfare system stole over 20 000 newborns from indigenous families and communities, and placed them for adoption into mostly non-indigenous homes. He wanted to share how this trauma had affected his life, his identity, and his people, how his passion for photography, yoga and travel, were a profound part of his ongoing healing journey. Initially our plan was for him to visit in 2021, but was hindered because of Covid restrictions around having volunteers in schools, but we had continued to plan since then…
His last words to me were, “I’d love to do whatever I can to support you and my people”… which so encapsulates who Donovan Patrick Mahoney was. We have lost an incredible treasure. Goodbye dear friend 💔

He has been voted Vancouver’s favourite stand-up comic numerous times in The Georgia Straight, Vancouver Courier, Westender and TV Week Magazine. Patrick has also had comedy specials on CTV, Bite TV, The Comedy Network and CBC, and has been featured on XM and Sirius satellite radio. Patrick is one-third of the hilarious live commentary show, The Gentlemen Hecklers, which features monthly at the legendary Rio Theatre, and is one of Vancouvers longest running comedy shows. Patrick holds the world record for Most Impressions Under a Minute, after dethroning the previous record holder, SNL alumni Dana Carvey.
