What if kindness was a school subject? 🌍 In Denmark, children aged 6 to 16 spend one hour each week in a class called Klassens tid. They sit together and talk about problems and solve them as a team. Many reports say this became mandatory in 1993.

A study of 279,000 students in 44 countries, reported by the University of Southern Denmark, found that Danish children are among the least bullied in Europe. 📊 Researchers say online bullying still needs work. No study proves the class alone caused this, yet feeling heard helps children learn care. 💛 Imagine growing up with that hour. Would the world be gentler?

Inside a Victorian Working-Class Tenement, London, 19th Century.

While wealthy Victorians enjoyed spacious townhouses with separate rooms for dining, entertaining, and sleeping, many of London’s poorest residents lived in cramped, overcrowded tenements.

Entire families often rented just a single room, which served as their bedroom, kitchen, living space, and sometimes even their workplace. Furniture was sparse, privacy was virtually nonexistent, and several people frequently shared a single bed or slept on makeshift mattresses on the floor.

Conditions could be harsh. Buildings were often damp, poorly ventilated, and inadequately maintained. Multiple households shared narrow staircases, outdoor toilets, and communal water supplies, while coal fires provided much of the heat.

For many families, home was also a place of work. Women and men earned additional income through sewing, tailoring, matchbox-making, and other forms of piecework, often in the same crowded rooms where they ate and slept.

By the late Victorian period, overcrowding and inadequate sanitation had become major public health concerns, prompting investigations, housing reforms, and efforts to improve living conditions.

This illustration offers a glimpse into the everyday realities of working-class life in Victorian London, a world far removed from the grandeur and luxury often associated with the era.
