Hong earned a bronze medal at Skills Compétences Canada, bringing home New Brunswick’s first-ever medal in the Photography competition.

This achievement adds to an impressive list of recognitions. Earlier this year, Hong received an artsnb scholarship and was named the inaugural recipient of the JL Biff Mitchell Creative Education Bursary, presented by Cat and Maureen LeBlanc.

Congratulations to Ceramics student Kan Zhang, recipient of the 2026 Award for Excellence in Craft and Design. ✨

Awarded annually to a graduating diploma student whose final work demonstrates outstanding creativity, design, and technical ability, this award includes a $1,000 prize.

Kan’s piece, “Nausicaa: A Warm Welcome,” draws inspiration from Homer’s “Odyssey,” depicting the moment when Nausicaa offers compassion and aid to the shipwrecked Odysseus. Through this powerful figurative sculpture, Kan connects an ancient story to contemporary themes of displacement, belonging, courage, and human connection.

Congratulations, Kan, on this well-deserved recognition and on creating work that demonstrates both exceptional skill and thoughtful storytelling. 👏

Pride lives in our community, our studios, and the people who make NBCCD what it is. 🌈✨

This month and every month, we celebrate the creativity, individuality, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, faculty, and alumni who help shape our college into a more vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive space.

From our Pride stairs to the flags throughout campus, these symbols represent more than visibility. They represent belonging, expression, and the freedom to be fully yourself.

At NBCCD, creativity thrives when people are empowered to show up authentically and be who they are. 💙🖤
